No longer spending every waking moment at home, Alice MacLeod is convinced this year is going to be her most promising year yet. But problems abound when Alice enters the Miss Smithers Pageant in an attempt to be practically normal. She plans to use the pageant as a journalistic experience, writing about it in her `zines. When her meddlesome mother, and eager to help boyfriend, publish the `zines, Alice gets into all kinds of trouble – with her parents, her friends, her boyfriend, the pageant girls, and even her shrink.
