Throwaway Daughter by Ting-Xing Ye
This is a really great book about a girl name Grace (Dong Mei) who was adopted by Canadian parents when she was a couple years old from China. Dong Mei didn’t really care or didn’t bother to care about her heritage, and she sometimes got mad at her parents for bringing it up. One day, in 1989, she witnessed the Tiananmen Massacre on TV. That event made her wonder about her heritage, where she comes from, and who her biological parents are. So for her graduation present, her parents give her plane tickets to go to China. Dong Mei eventually learns about herself, her family, and those who love her. It’s a heart warming story, and not that mushy, I think everyone should read it.
