White Girl by Sylvia Olsen
“I never thought about being white. I didn’t have to. I was transparent – no colour at all. I hung out, was a good enough student and no one paid any special attention to me at all. Then I became a white girl.”
When she was 15, Josie’s life was turned “upside down, inside out, and back to front.” She was an ordinary girl until her dysfunctional mom met Martin. Before long, they were married and Josie had to move to a reserve. She makes it through the summer by hiding out in her room, but she can’t hide forever. Living with a new family and a new name – Blondie, she ventures out to life on the reserve.
