Morris is a major antagonist of the 2020 action role-playing fantasy game, Genshin Impact. Serving as the overarching antagonist in the Roses and Muskets event quest.
He is a Fontainian Aristocrat who once held a secret relationship with his family's maid, Elisa. However, upon discovering she became pregnant, he sent her away and would later hire an assassin to kill her and their children in order to keep their relationship confidential.
Personality[]
Morris is extremely paranoid. Though he did love Elisa, he was still concerned about losing his aristocratic status and did everything in his power to make sure their relationship never got out. After she got pregnant, he had her exiled with a large sum of Mora, instead of running away with her as she suggested. When she sent him a letter with photos of their children, rather than simply ignoring and disposing of it, he sent an assassin to kill them to ensure she would never contact him again.
History[]
Relationship with Elisa[]
Morris came from a wealthy aristocratic family in Fontaine. His family had hired a woman named Elisa to work as a maid on their estate. Captivated by her beauty, Morris fell for Elisa and the two began a relationship. However, they were forced to keep their affair a secret as it's reveal would have stripped Morris of his status.
After some time, Elisa became pregnant with Morris' child. Intending to keep the child, Elisa asked Morris to leave his family behind and travel far away with her. Refusing to relinquish his aristocratic rank, Morris instead gave Elisa a large sum of mora before telling her to leave his family and terminate the pregnancy.
Tying up loose ends[]
Sometime after, Elisa gave birth to fraternal twins whom she would name Baptiste and Veronique. She sent Morris a letter containing photos of their children, hoping he could find some time to visit them. Around this time, Morris had begun a relationship with another woman of similar status.
Fearing the damage that would come should his past affair be revealed, he hired an assassin from Fleuve Cendre to kill Elisa and the children. The assassin successfully killed Elisa, yet failed to kill Baptiste and Veronique, who had been hidden underneath the floor prior to their arrival. The two however, would become traumatized by the event and swear vengeance against the people who killed their mother.
The Two Musketeers[]
Over the next 20 years after the incident, Baptiste would write a novel depicting a fictionalized version of the events, titled the Two Musketeers. The novel quickly became a popular work in Fontaine, and Fontainian Director Xavier had planned to make a film adaptation for the Fontinalia Film Festival.
Realizing the novel was a depiction of his past life with Elisa, Morris began taking steps to ensure the story would not spread with the film. First, he offered to invest in Xavier's project, and then withdrew his investments at the last minute to make sure the project did not have any funding. Xavier however, managed to overcome this obstacle and successfully produce the film. Nearing the end of filming, Morris returned to invest in the project so he could covertly tamper with the equipment. He covertly broke the filming crew's two Kameras and dumped the film recordings into the sewers. Yet the crew successfully fixed their Kamera to finish the final scenes, and recovered the film before it suffered any water damage.
With the filming complete, the crew celebrated by holding a party at a nearby beach. While at the party, Morris was approached by Yoimiya, who asked if he could accompany her to the warehouse to help bring her fireworks down. Morris reluctantly agreed and followed her.
Upon entering the dark warehouse, Morris was quickly caught off guard by the sound of a gunshot. He quickly found the light switch, only to find Yoimiya seemingly dead with her body accompanied by a rainbow rose. Realizing the symbolism, he went into panic and began banging on the doors, begging to be let out. Chevreuse then came out of the shadows with her musket smoking. She began to approach him, scaring Morris deeper into the warehouse. As she chased him, she intimidated him by stating how Elisa died a more honorable death. Chevreuse then threw Elisa's pendant to him, revealing she knew everything about what he had done. Morris was eventually backed up into a wall. Chevreuse aimed her musket at his head, asking if he even truly loved her, or if he always planned on killing her. Morris began to confess, justifying himself by claiming that she forced his hand since their relationship could have been revealed. Realizing Chevreuse would not take his excuses, he began to deplorably beg for his life by offering her any amount of Mora. Chevreuse told him to keep his Mora and go to hell, and then pulled the trigger.
To his shock, Chevreuse had actually shot a blank. She then put down her gun, formally introducing herself before declaring he was under arrest. Paimon and the Traveler then came out, revealing that the scene was all an act to get him to confess on Kamera. However, while they had him cornered, Veronique came out of the shadows and tried to shoot Morris. Only for her bullet to be blocked by Chevreuse, who then declared she was under arrest as well.
With the scene already having been recorded, Morris was forced to fully confess his crimes. During which, he finally admitted to being the father of both Baptiste and Veronique. Yet while Baptiste became a writer, Veronique became a true musketeer to get revenge on Morris. After she failed to kill him, Veronique began to argue with Chevreuse as she refused to let her father live the rest of his life in comfort at the Fortress of Meropide. Chevreuse however, assured her that would not be the case, and that in sparing Morris she would be upholding true justice rather than vengeance. At that moment, Yoimiya returned with the rest of the Special Patrol. The officers took both Veronique and Morris away, and the two along with Baptiste would later be imprisoned at the Fortress of Meropide.
