Maxwell Steele is a major antagonist in the 2017 PC video game series Emily Wants to Play. He is one of the three dolls introduced to the protagonist, the OG dolls, and Emily Withers after arriving at Central Evidence.
Appearance[]
Maxwell Steele is a pale mannequin who wears a black tuxedo and black dress shoes. He is bald and has black eyes with white pupils. His face and suit have dirt markings and bullet holes that have either dried blood or dirt/dust surrounding them.
Biography[]
Pre-Emily Wants To Play Too[]
Before the game, Maxwell Steele was a man who robbed multiple department stores and malls. He used a gutted mannequin suit to sneak into the stores and disguise himself with other mannequins until stores would close. The suit was equipped with eye filters that allowed him to see in the dark and the hingers that allowed the suit to move were incredibly noisy. Max was also never seen in camera footage. One night, Maxwell tripped on an alarm at a local mall, causing the police to arrive at the scene. Before Maxwell could escape, the police fired shots and killed him after thinking he had weapons on him. His mannequin outfit was eventually taken to Central Evidence to be stored.
Emily Wants To Play Too[]
Maxwell is first seen in the dream sequence where he is sat against a rocking chair in the lounge room of the protagonist's apartment. If the protagonist remains in the room for too long, Maxwell will get angry and throw him out of the room, yelling "GET OUT!"
In Central Evidence, Maxwell is first seen alongside Kiki as he is revived by Kiki's ritual. Throughout the night, he and the other antagonists play childhood games with the protagonist until 7 AM, when they will set fire to the building and escape. Maxwell is not shown in the ending cutscene, however, an internet article that a man reads in the game says that he did escape with the other antagonists successfully.
Gameplay[]
Maxwell first becomes active at 9 AM after the player unlocks Area 2. The player must collect a flashlight in the warehouse in order to deal with Max. If players hear a long creaking noise, it means that Maxwell is near. Players must shine their flashlight at Maxwell in order to make him disappear temporarily. He is active until 10:30 PM.
- At 12 AM, the protagonist will have to find all seven antagonists, including Max, in the dark before the hour ends.
- At 2 AM, the protagonist has to find a room with a light on while Weasl's music box plays in the dark. Players must find the correct room in time before Weasl's music box ends. Players must also avoid Maxwell as he is hunting the player throughout the building.
- At 4 AM, the antagonists will play Freeze Tag with the protagonist. Maxwell can only be tagged in the dark.
- At 5 AM, the protagonist will have to hide in a dark corner since Emily and the dolls will search for him throughout Central Evidence.
- At 6 AM, the protagonist will have to find Emily three times while avoiding the dolls and without reaching the time limit.
