Soon all my children will be returned to me. Then we will feast on the pitiful bones of our foes. Starting with the pseudo-demon... Ghost Rider!

The wall is broken, these Midnight Sons already beaten! The future is written in blood! And my children--my Lilin--will inherit the Earth!
~ Lilith
We are devils and demons... violating spirits is what we do.
~ Lilith

Lilith is a degenerated goddess from Marvel Universe loosely based on the villain of biblical lore. She is the self-proclaimed "Mother Of All Demons" in a similar manner to how Echidna is labelled the "Mother Of All Monsters" in Greek mythology. She is the main antagonist of the Midnight Sons series.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Though some trace her origins to the Judeo-Christian Heavenly Hosts (from which she was cast out alongside Lucifer), it is believed that Lilith became one of the Lilitu, a race of female wind demons affiliated with the Annunaki who haunted the Sumerian deserts and open country. The Lilitu were notorious for terrorizing women and children and seducing hapless young men during the night.

Lilith allegedly seduced the first man, Adam, before giving birth to new demon races: The Lilin, the incubi and the succubi. Lilith and Asmodeus spawned countless demons. Many of them were slain by the servants of Yahweh.

She later relocated to pre-cataclysmic Atlantis where she played a role in the formation of Earth's first vampires, as several beings have called her the "mother of vampires. In retaliation for her actions, she was eventually imprisoned within the corpse of the dragon-like Leviathan aka Tiamat by Atlantean mages prior to the fall of Atlantis in approximately 18,000 BC, although her disembodied life essence was free to wander to Earth realm.

Modern Times[]

In modern times, Lilith was inadvertently freed from the body of the Leviathan (also known as Tiamat) who had settled in Greenland. She murdered a group of scientists that had come to inspect the strange creature. Wishing to learn the fate of her children and about the modern world, she began scrying. She gathered her brethren to launch a preemptive assault upon the Nine, a loose-knit confederation of mystically powered heroes assembled to oppose her; but her plans to overrun the Earth realm with her demonic spawn were foiled when Ghost Rider (Daniel Ketch) dispatched the Lilin to the Shadow Side Dimension.

Learning of Centurious, she sought him out and formed an alliance with him. The alliance lasted until the arrival of Zarathos who had been trapped within Centurious. Lilin, her children, and Zarathos were banished to Shadowside, but soon returned due to the weakened barriers. After Zarathos's destruction she vowed that she and her new child (fathered by Zarathos) would avenge him. Most recently Lilith was among those weakened by the Hellphyr. She attempted to attack Doctor Strange during this time but failed. Her most recent Lilin were destroyed by Jennifer Kale.

Lilith resurfaced to plague the Order of the Midnight Sons and Sorcerer Supreme Dr. Strange, increasing her attacks as the dimensional barriers protecting Earth weakened, but was defeated on all occasions. The faerie king Oberon later l imprisoned Lilith extradimensionally, but her fellow prisoner Merlyn had British MĨ13 operative Pete Wisdom reopen the interdimensional nexus to purge invading Skrulls from the British Isles. Lilith allied with the vampire lord Vlad Tepes Dracula, becoming a viscountess in his vampire nation and using her occult mastery to aid their attempted takeover of Great Britain.

Powers and Abilities[]

Lilith possesses the powers of the Mesopotamian gods plus the occult powers derived from her degeneration into a demon, specifically a succubus. She has superhuman strength, stamina and durability.

As a succubus, Lilith seduces victims and then devours their souls. Lilith can spawn Lilin through normal conception or using the souls of her victims. Lilith gains power as she spawns more Lilin.

She has vast knowledge of magical lore and the ability to tap into and manipulate the dark forces of the universe. She can conjure visions of distant events, create destructive bolts or protective walls of mystic energy, kill via invisible force, teleport, and perform other magical feats; the full extent of her power remains undetermined.
