Augris

Augris is the main antagonist of the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Resistance".

He was portrayed by Alan Scarfe, who played Nigel Griffith in Double Impact.

Biography[]

Augris was the third magistrate of the Mokra Order, a brutal totalitarian regime with a reputation for shooting first. They were opposed by resistance movements. Augris had been personally responsible for the arrest of the elderly Caylem's wife. When he learned that USS Voyager crewmembers were on the planet buying tellerium for their engines from the resistance, Augris became convinced they were supplying the resistance with weapons.

When Voyager openly approached the planet, Augris contacted them in an apparently reasonable manner. He met with Chakotay and Neelix and, although he chastised them for their rule breaking, he claimed he would try and help their missing crewmembers if he located them. However, he also attempted to get information from them about the resistance. In fact, Augris knew exactly where two of the missing crewmembers were: He was holding Tuvok and Torres prisoner, convinced they knew more about the resistance than they did, and ordered Tuvok tortured.

Aware that Janeway was at large on the planet, Augris organised a search for her with a group of guards. He stopped Darod, a shopkeeper with ties to the resistance who had helped Janeway, but was distracted by Caylem, who was also helping Janeway after convincing himself she was his daughter, playing the fool and asking for help finding his hat. Augris contemptuously placed a melon on the old man's head. His guards managed to apprehend Darod, but failed to trap Janeway and Caylem. He also threatened to destroy Voyager if the ship didn't withdraw.

When Janeway shut down the forcefields at the prison with some help from Caylem and joined up with Tuvok, Torres and Darod, Augris managed to corner them with his guards. He revealed that Caylem's wife had died twelve years ago and his daughter had been killed trying to rescue her; every so often, Caylem turned up at the prison trying to "rescue" them and was sent away, with Augris noted he served as a symbol of the pointlessness of resistance. This taunting, and Augris stating his intention to personally interrogate Janeway, enraged Caylem, who lunged at him, sparking a melee. Caylem fatally stabbed Augris through the chest moments before he himself was killed by guards, the two old adversaries dying within moments of each other.
