Adam "Kane" Marcus is the main protagonist of the 2007 video game Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, and the deuteragonist in its 2010 sequel, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. Kane was a business consultant turned mercenary and joined The7.
He is voiced by Brian Bloom, who also played Brock Pike in The A-Team, and Billy Barnes and Eric Reilly in Mafia II.
History[]
Early life[]
Kane is an experienced fighter, adept in unarmed combat and the use of firearms, as well as the methods that make them efficient. With ten years of being under the direction of the 'The7' Kane gained a set of remarkable skills that made his acts successful, eventually earning himself a seat amongst the actual 7 crime lords who constituted the organization. He also shows a high amount of skill with a Push Dagger, as he almost always wields one.
However, during a botched job in Venezuela that resulted in the deaths of 25 citizens, Kane escapes with The7's money and is arrested after arriving back to the United States.
Kane & Lynch: Dead Men[]
Kane was on his way to death row when his transport is ambushed by a group of armed men, who take him, along with fellow inmate James Seth Lynch, with them to the remaining members of The7. The Elder Brother tells Kane that he and his men have his wife and daughter and Kane is given three weeks to retrieve The7's stolen money lest Kane's family dies.
Kane and Lynch plan a bank heist to retrieve the money with the help of a safecracker but were only able to obtain half of it as the other half was in the hands of a Japanese businessman named Retamoto. The duo later infiltrate a nightclub in Tokyo and kidnap the owner, Yoko, daughter of Retamoto. Kane later arrives at a garden expecting to meet Retamoto, but finds a cell phone in the middle of the hut. He answers the phone and tries to negotiate with Retamoto, but Lynch kills Yoko during a psychotic episode, causing Retamoto's men to open fire. Kane and Lynch manage to escape, but were forced to return to The7 with only half of the money.
When they return, Lynch gets betrayed by the bodyguards who assisted him and Kane in Tokyo and both men get prepared to be executed. The moment Kane's family arrives, his wife chastises him for his past actions before getting shot in the head by Mute. An enraged Kane climbs out of the hole and beats Mute to death with a shovel before he and Lynch take out the remaining mercenaries in the area.
After burying his wife, Kane and Lynch raid a prison to recruit a group of inmates who were once members of The7 before going after Retamoto and The7 themselves. He manages to recruit 3 of the 5 men, Rific, Thapa, and Shelly before making their escape in a stolen prison truck. The group assault the Retamoto Tower in Tokyo where they kill Retamoto and retrieve the briefcase carrying the rest of The7's money. The group then shoot through the streets of Tokyo before escaping in a van.
Kane and the Dead Men arrive in Havana where the country was in a civil war. The group fight alongside the Cuban government forces through the streets and reach the capital building where The7 are presumably located. However, when they arrive, Kane only finds Carlos, who tells him that the brothers escaped to Venezuela. Kane decides to trust Carlos to lead him to The7, but Thapa leaves the group as a result.
Upon arriving in Venezuela, Kane and the Dead Men fight their way through of The7's mercenaries until they arrive at the hacienda. Carlos infiltrates the building with a mine, but attempts to betray Kane's group to The7 before getting shot. Kane learns that The Brothers have taken Jenny and finds her in the middle of the hacienda. Kane is then confronted by the brothers, who continue to taunt him for his actions before Kane shoots the mine, killing the Elder Brother. Kane then chases after the Younger Brother, who has Jenny with him, before shooting down his plane and killing him. Kane tries to talk to Jenny, but the woman points a gun at him. Kane rushes with Jenny to a nearby helicopter, but is left at a crossroads as Rific and Shelly were pinned down at a church by The7's remaining forces.
Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days[]
Kane gets a call from Lynch for some work in Shanghai, China. After a debt collection goes wrong, Kane and Lynch find themselves in the crosshairs of the Triads, who kidnap and torture Kane and Lynch and kill the latter's girlfriend. Realizing how in over their heads they are, the two of them attempt to flee the country while pursued by the law enforcement and military, all of whom are on the payroll of a corrupt politician. After assassinating the politician and hijacking an aircraft, the duo flee Shanghai, their whereabouts and fate unknown.
Trivia[]
- Kane and Lynch both appear in Hitman: Blood Money and Hitman: Absolution, mentioned in the former in a newspaper as wanted men and seen in the latter at a bar and shooting range respectively.
