Abstract
One of the most causes of adverse events in the healthcare institutions is the lack of training of the assistance staff, therefore the use of simulators in medical education has begun to be part of the curriculums of some programs, however, there are areas, that still do not have some kind of tool for interactive training. This paper aim is to identify these areas in higher education institutions in Colombia. The review consisted of seeks the medical simulation centers and simulators used in the teaching-learning process, identifying specific healthcare areas. 192 programs in health sciences are reported in the information system of education in Colombia, and at least 120 Centers and/or Simulation Laboratories for medical education are assigned to the Colombian Association of Simulation in Health Sciences. The areas with the highest use of simulators in the training are pre-hospital care, cardiology, and gynecology, which addresses a small percentage of the health sciences. The above may be due to the high cost of the most used simulators, task-trainers and mannequins, which suggests that the development of tools or another kind of simulator like computer-based is necessary, specifically to areas like critical care where it has been demonstrated, that occurs the most adverse events in the world.
