A conversation about the Denver Nuggets turned controversial during a recent live broadcast of FanDuel’s Run It Back.
During the NBA discussion series, sports reporter Michelle Beadle said what sounded like a racial slur instead of the Denver team’s name.
“[Nuggets player] Michael Porter Jr. recently said — aw, I don’t like this — that if the n—–,” and then immediately corrected herself, saying “the Nuggets” as her co-hosts, Lou Williams and Chandler Parsons, erupted in laughter. “Don’t try to get me on that,” she said, laughing as well.
As Parsons and Williams teased her about what she said, she responded, “That’s not even a thing! That’s not even a word!”
A spokesperson for FanDuel TV told TVLine that Beadle made a “gaffe,” and directed us to her Instagram story. TVLine has reached out to Beadle’s representative for comment.
You can watch the moment in question below:
The clip above circulated on social media in the days following the broadcast; on Saturday, Beadle posted an Instagram story about the incident, asserting that it was an unfortunate mistake. “The moment you say ‘Nuggets’ incorrectly on television and your entire career flashes… while your cohosts die,” she wrote over a clip from the show, with the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme song playing. “Broadcasting students: Slow down. And enunciate.”
Southern accent, somebody in that family tree owned slaves, checkkk the tree.
Or at the very least, wanted to & believed what they were told by rich whites that they were better than the enslaved working out in the fields because of the color of their skin. Stop thinking that every southerner in that time had slaves, because they didn’t. They were just getting the same type of brainwashing that rich white conservatives have been using for centuries & still use today on those who aren’t rich to get their support.
Doubt she’ll even have consequences. Racism and all other discrimination will be totally legal in a few months.
Could be just me, but isn’t the proper thing to do in circumstances like this to immediately apologize? “I’m sorry, I just got tongue-tied and that came out in the worst possible way. I was trying to say Nuggets.” Instead of yukking it up?
No foul No harm
You good baby girl.
She shouldn’t have to apologize. The word came out of her mouth as “niggets” instead of “nuggets.” That’s really unfortunate for obvious reasons but let’s save our outrage for real racism.
Very unprofessional and how dare the guy’s laugh that off. Look at how we show the young people today. Really sad
It’s a case by case basis, they work with her one is white and one is black the black dude was laughing the most, obviously didn’t take offense to it as it was a mistake. Not a big deal to me she was trying to quote Michael Porter Jr, she was not making a statement or anything. Let’s move on please.
It was a mistake anyone could have made. I’m glad the three laugh it off. That shows us we shouldn’t get upset over racial mistakes
I don’t underatand whats so funny, why is the N word even in the conversation and why isn’t one of the 2 guys calling her out on this. This type of disrespect is gonna increase and If we allow it it will continue and worsen.
She misspoke when trying to say “Nuggets” “might” and said “Niggets” – she should have to apologize for that? You think her intent was to slip in something that, while not even a racial slur, is close to one? That was her master plan? You really think that was her intent…and, also, she didn’t even say any “slur” – just “Niggets”…
As a black man, I give her a pass
It sounded like a true mistake to me and l am African American.
It sounded like a true mistake to me and l am African American. Yet, she could have been more apologetic though. It would have seemed more sincere.
