Ancient Fossils with Modern Flavor

Fossil-like Trainer cards have been a staple of the Pokémon TCG since their inception in the Fossil expansion. Whether they were Item cards that helped get Pokémon like Kabuto into play or Item cards that were played directly onto the Bench as Basic Pokémon, they've always been the backbone of any prehistoric strategy. Antique Dome Fossil, Antique Helix Fossil, and Antique Old Amber bring a new flavor to these prehistoric strategies as Items that can be played as Basic Pokémon that specifically evolve into Kabuto, Omanyte, and Aerodactyl—the first cards with these effects in over 10 years. Each has a solid Ability that helps protect these delicate fossils before they evolve into these prehistoric Pokémon.

Stories in Evolution

Scarlet & Violet—151 is a unique expansion where illustrators portray a Pokémon and the story of its Evolution across several cards. This is common with illustration rare cards, but this trend spans across the whole set from 1–151. Illustrator Naoyo Kimura showcases the Evolution from Pikachu to Raichu by having the two Pokémon walk in different directions at different times of day. Illustrator Shinya Komatsu portrays something similar as Cubone ponders its bone in a field of rocks before evolving into Marowak and smashing the field around it with newfound strength. Take a look at each Pokémon and its Evolutions, and see what you notice!

Mimic Opposing Moves with Mew ex

Mew has a tendency to copy the attacks of other Pokémon in the Pokémon TCG, and Mew ex embraces that history with its Genome Hacking attack! Genome Hacking allows you to choose an attack from your opponent's Active Pokémon and use it as your own. Don't like the current Active Pokémon's attacks? Put a Basic Pokémon from your opponent's hand onto their Bench with Erika's Invitation—if you succeed, you get to switch it into the Active Spot. If it stays there into the opponent's next turn, Giovanni's Charisma is a great follow-up to deny their Energy attachments and speed up your own.

Battle from the Bench

Ordinarily, your Pokémon has to be in the Active Spot to attack your opponent's Pokémon, but Alakazam ex is here to bend the rules. Its Dimensional Hand attack can be used while this Pokémon on the Bench, opening avenues for unique strategies. You can choose to have Alakazam ex sit on the Bench behind a big, bulky Pokémon like Wigglytuff ex or a Pokémon with a unique Ability that's most useful in the Active Spot, such as Mr. Mime and its Mimic Barrier.

Strike Them in Slumber

Make your opponent Heart-Stopping Kiss their chances of winning goodbye! Jynx ex can instantly Knock Out any Pokémon with this powerful attack—but only if the target is Asleep. You can make your opponent's Pokémon sleep with Jynx ex's Icy Wind attack for 3 , but there's always a chance it'll wake up. If you want to guarantee that your opponent's Pokémon will be Asleep on your turn, you can evolve Drowzee into Hypno to activate its Here for Hypnosis Ability. Finding that many Pokémon for a single Knock Out can be difficult, but the Supporter card Bill's Transfer can help you find Drowzee and Hypno when you need them most.
