By default, all Gravatar profiles are public. This includes your:
- Public avatar
- Public profile information
- Exposure to search engine indexing
If you would like to make some, or all of these features private, you can do so from Your Privacy Settings Page. This link is accessed by clicking Account Settings
while logged into your Gravatar profile, which is located at the bottom of the profile editor sidebar:
Once Account Settings
is clicked you’ll a modal will open with the following options:
Let’s briefly review these options:
Public avatar – if enabled, your Gravatar image will be shown across the web. If disabled, a default avatar will be shown instead. Deleting your Avatar images from https://gravatar.com/profile/avatars will achieve the same effect.
Public profile – if enabled, anyone with the profile link or your email address can access your public profile. This includes our public API that developers and sites use across the web.
Discourage search engines – if enabled, we will add the appropriate tags to your profile page so that search engines like Google will not crawl or index your profile. All major search engines respect these tags, but it can take time for your site to be de-indexed after the option has been enabled.
