The Cold War story arc is a chain of cross-faction missions available to all factions. The quest is part of "The Galaxy at Large" side content. It takes place directly after the events of the Borg Advance episode arc. Cold War is not available until level 65 for all factions.
The Deferi, a small spacefaring civilization on the borders of the Cardassian space, have sent out requests for aid to their allies in the Federation and the Klingon Empire. Their home planet has already fallen under attack by the Borg, and now a new enemy is attacking their freighters and kidnapping their citizens.
The Breen Confederacy is behind these attacks. The Deferi have something they want, something even the Borg failed to find. A search for an artifact of the long lost civilization will take you on a journey throughout the Deferi space. Can you locate it before the Breen do?

- With the release of Season Fifteen: Age of Discovery, the "Cold War" arc (previously called the "Breen Invasion") was moved from the "Episodes" tab to the "Available" tab. However, it will not appear there until the character reaches level 65.
- Currently on console, these missions are only available to players that have already completed them, and can be shared by players that have them to players that do not. Upon completing each mission, they become available in the Mission Journal under the "Incoming Hails" tab, below the section heading "Cold War" Mission Replay.
- The diplomatic mission “Trade Deal” available to Federation-aligned players on Starbase 39-Sierra can be considered a "teaser" mission for the Cold War.
- [Breen Tactical Officer Candidate], which used to be available as a reward from “Cold Storage” during the Feature Episode rerun events, is now only available from the Mudd's Market as part of the It's About Time Pack.
