The Solar Convergence Device (abbreviated as SCD)[1] is an object that appears in the Sonic Boom series. It is a weapon designed by Miles "Tails" Prower to deflect asteroids.
Description[]
Appearance[]
The Solar Convergence Device is basically a solar mirror about half the height of Tails' Workshop. It has a yellow framework with antenna-like joints on the sides. Sitting on top of it is a rectangular surface made of several mirrors and a focus lens/laser positioned above it.
Features and abilities[]
By adjusting the mirrors on its reflective surface, the SCD can focus sunrays and fire them as a laser which packs enough power to knock a colossal asteroid in space off its course. It also has a modular design that makes it incorporable into preexisting machines, such as the Egg Rocket.[1]
History[]
TV series[]
Season two[]
Needing a device to bump an asteroid heading for earth off-course, Tails came up with the SCD when seeing Sonic watch himself in a mirror, believing focused sunrays were what they needed. Space debris blocked the machine's laser from the surface however, so Team Sonic attached the SCD to the Egg Rocket and had Knuckles fly it into space to fire it from there. However, Knuckles broke the device when trying to use it, forcing him to shatter the asteroid by hand.[1]
