Krohnen McDougall (クローネン・マクドガル) is a character from The King of Fighters series. He was introduced in The King of Fighters XV as the leader of the team that bears his first name, as well as having a strong resemblance to a familiar character. His official nickname is "Exceptional Esper" (
Development[]
Krohnen's appearance shares numerous similarities with K9999 and Nameless. First alluded to in the PS4 datamining reveal of KOF XV, and was at first, theorized as an outright inclusion of K9999 in the game despite issues surrounding his character, he is often theorized as SNK's answer to fan clamor in bringing back K9999 to the series without the elements that makes his appearance legally risky.
At the time of the character announcement (occurred during The Game Awards 2021), the only official reaction that can be considered as a statement from SNK back then is Krispy Kaiser's reaction in SNK's official Discord channel (see Trivia for details regarding this). This has since been supplemented by the Team Stories focusing on Krohnen and his eponymous team. Eventually, the game confirms that Krohnen is indeed K9999, but using a new identity and figure to evade the surveillance of his old employers.
Personality[]
Krohnen is a very loud person with an extremely short temper, though he has matured somewhat since adopting his new identity (as Ángel pointed out his team's ending). He claims to have changed, no longer the wantonly violent person he once was; An example of his maturity is shown during his ending with Ángel and Kula where he returns the latter to Foxy and Diana unharmed, and even giving Kula the prize money they earned from the tournament (which he planned to use for his and Ángel's own purposes), even scolding both Ángel and Kula from becoming too noisy when two girls were fighting each other behind him during the prologue scene. Still, he hates Kyo Kusanagi and K' with passion and intensity, even though he has no personal grudge towards the original Kyo himself. He only fought him because Kyo's facial appearance during the fifteenth tournament (including his classic hairstyle and headband) reminded him of a Kyo-look alike fighter whom Krohnen held a grudge against, and is apparently unaware that he was derived from Kyo's genetics. Towards those remotely showing kindness to him and his partner Ángel, he can be somewhat considerate, as he showed with Ramón.
Powers[]
He has the same powers and limitations just like K9999. He has the Kusanagi flames, but has no refined control over it, and cannot do tasks and duties of the Kusanagi bloodline, especially those involving controlling Orochi.
- Pyrokinesis - Krohnen can control fire, but his ability is quite limited in comparison to Kyo Kusanagi, Iori Yagami or even K'. He can create fire to erupt from the ground in front of him, and attack with streams of fire in a slashing manner.
- Polymorphic Arm - Krohnen can transform his left arm into an iron drill, a blade or a shotgun-like weapon. However, his left arm aches whenever he does this (as brought up by Nakoruru in one of her victory quotes).
Skills[]
- Motorcycles - Even as K9999, Krohnen is skilled in riding a motorcycle, having done so with Angel in their travels together.
- Motorcycle mechanic - As implied in KOFXV, he has since expanded his knowledge in motorcycles to the point of being knowledgeable in its inner workings and engines, having appraised Ryo's own motorcycle in one of his secret endings.
Fighting Style[]
Krohnen fights with his polymorphic arm. The arm can transform into claws, blades of different sizes and shapes, and into a shotgun. He knows some basic fighting techniques.
