Nanites are robotic looking bugs featured in The Sims 3: Into the Future and they can be found in Oasis Landing, predominantly in the wasteland area[1], or near your Reventlov's Bot Workshop after catching all the unique nanites from the Nanite Collector collection challenge. These are not actually considered insects, but are a collection item and have their own filter with the Collection Helper. Note that they still raise the Collection skill when catching nanites, just like catching insects because it is the same action.
Nanites are essential components of some, but not all, trait chips, and some advanced chips require specific nanites. Sims can design, create and reverse engineer nanites. To design and create them requires Reventlov's Bot Workshop. Designing and creating a nanite increases the bot building skill, and at level 3 they can also be reverse engineered. Reverse engineering a nanite lets a Sim learn how to design it, which is needed to create rare nanites, and may yield empty processors.
Processors[]
When reverse engineering a nanite there is a chance of failure, which is reduced by 25% if you have Bot Fan. The amount of processors yielded is a minimum range of 0-2 and maximum range of 2-4. So if you get two different sizes of processors you have a chance of 0-4 of each type.
Creating Nanites[]
Nanites take only 30 sim minutes to make; which if you are making for profit is very time efficient. If you have completed the Micro-Master challenge by creating 200 nanites the cost to make nanites is halved–making rare nanite producing very efficiently lucrative.
