Mental is a fundamental category in The Sims 4. It has a special skill for children, and an aspiration dedicated to it. Mental skills are augmented by being focused.

Such skills are: Archaeology^[TS4:JA], Fabrication^[TS4:EL], Fishing, Gardening, Gemology^[TS4:CCS], Handiness, Juice Fizzing^[TS4:EL], Logic, Programming, Research & Debate^[TS4:DU], Robotics^[TS4:DU], Rock Climbing^[TS4:SE], Rocket Science, Vampire Lore^[TS4:V], Veterinarian^[TS4:C&D], Video Gaming and Wellness^[TS4:SD]. The fundamental can be gained by playing chess and video games, doing extra credit homework with a school grade of B or above, joining cooking with teen or older Sims, and using the Junior Wizard Starter Set. Other ways to build this fundamental include using a Backyard Observatory, playing a doctor set^[TS4:PH], practicing yoga on the yoga mat (along with child's Motor skill)^[TS4:SD], digging for artifacts^[TS4:JA], and by meditating using a meditation stool^[TS4:SD].
