Hellenic Pakistan

Hellenic Pakistan (edit · talk · history · links · watch · logs · delete) · close request

Chenzw has nominated this page for deletion for the reason: WP:OR and WP:SYNTH where the article primarily discusses Greek history, but cited sources do not explicitly support the association of the discussed Greek subject matter to "Hellenic Pakistan". Discussion

  •  Keep-Important references. Eku Roy (talk) 07:15, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Keep but rename it to "Hellenic Period in Pakistan"; this is to address concerns about anachronism. The article covers the Greek/Hellenic history within the region of modern-day Pakistan, including Alexander's conquest and the successor states that followed. This is a very significant part of the history of Pakistan. The references cited discuss Greek history in the area, but indeed do not specifically refer to it as "Hellenic Pakistan." – Cyber.Eyes.2005Talk 09:21, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • Are you saying that Pakistan existed during the Hellenic period? Please also address the concern that the article is a misrepresentation of Indo-Greek Kingdom. [1] Chenzw  Talk  10:24, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I’m not claiming that modern Pakistan existed during the Hellenic period. The focus is on the land itself? The article discusses Alexander’s conquest and the following Seleucid, Greco-Bactrian, and Indo-Greek periods. There’s no misrepresentation here. The confusion likely came from the map, which shows the Indo-Greek kingdom, but it is clearly labeled as such. – Cyber.Eyes.2005Talk 10:39, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete I was going to nominate this myself. Concerns raised at enwiki (as linked above) are valid and I quote User:AirshipJungleman29: "...as someone who has contributed extensively in the area of the so-called "Hellenic Pakistan", a formulation which I don't believe has ever been used in scholarship..."; this is further supported by the fact that this simplewiki article is the only one which comes up if you search for "Hellenic Pakistan". This is also patent OR not a case simply solved by a rename, no RS on South Asian history consider a distinct period as such beyond a mention of the Indo-Greek Kingdom. To expand that to a coherent period of history and further anachronistically limit it to modern territorial entities is also clearly SYNTH. Gotitbro (talk) 04:19, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
