San Luis Obispo is a city in the U.S. state of California. It is about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It was founded in 1772 by Junípero Serra.

San Luis Obispo is one of California's oldest settlements. It is the county seat of San Luis Obispo County. At the 2020 census, 47,063 people lived there.[6] California Polytechnic State University is in San Luis Obispo.
