Moissanites was first discovered in 1893 by a French scientist named Henri Moissan, who later won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He discovered microscopic particles of the gem that would eventually bear his name in Arizona, in a crater created by a meteorite that fell to Earth. He initially thought that he had discovered diamonds, but later determined that the crystals were composed of silicon carbide. Natural Moissanites are incredibly rare, therefore Moissanites available today are lab created. Moissanites are engineered to give the illusion of similarity to Diamonds, but is compositionally and visually quite different from a real diamond. The durability, brilliance, and color of the two gems are quite distinct. See the brilliance refractive index comparisons of the Moissanites, Diamonds, Cubic Zirconias and Sapphires: Refractive index: Moissanite: 2.65 Diamond: 2.42 Cubic Zirconia: 2.21 Sapphire: 1.77
As you can see, when compared to a Diamond or other stones the refractive index of a Moissanite is greater than the others.
Moissanites have the ability to bend light as it enters the stone and redirect light back to your eyes. Moissanites also have a dispersion rating of 0.104 where as Diamonds have a dispersion rating of only 0.044. RETURN POLICY: I gladly accept returns, exchanges, and cancellations.
