Ultra-wideband impulse-radio has attracted attention in short range and high-speed indoor communications. The terminal is generally expected to be small-size, system simplicity and low power consumption. Therefore, the TR-PIAM (transmitted-reference pulse interval amplitude modulation) scheme had been proposed to simplify the symbol correlation process including the Rake combining and to improve the energy efficiency, but the correlation process requires estimation of the optimum integration time in multipath channels. In this paper, a TR-PIAM scheme using Time-Reversal is proposed in order to solve these problems. The performance is improved without active correlation and Rake combining process, thereby resulting in terminal system simplicity. The performance in multipath channels is investigated using computer simulation and the effectiveness is discussed.
