The Colossus of Rhodes was a statue built to commemorate the successful defense of Rhodes city against a year-long siege by Demetrius Poliocretes. Standing approximately 108 feet tall, the tallest ancient statue is considered to be one of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
