Defense Command is a level in the PSX version of Quake II. It is a hub level connected to the facility that houses one of the most valuable Strogg assets - their Gravity Booster, which allows them to manipulate the planet's gravity force. It is also connected to the Research Lab.

The player must destroy the computer systems maintaining a set of security lasers, which allows access to the Research Lab. The objective there is to steal the Commander's Head, with which they can access the Gravity Booster.

Secrets[]

  • #1) In the final hallway before the level exit, there is a cracked window to your left; blow it open and dive underwater to find the last secret, with a smorgasboard of different types of Ammo.

Notes[]

  • This map is based upon Launch Command, a level in the original PC version. The layout is similar, although the progression through the level and the objectives within it are different. For example, the PC player can complete everything they need to do in Launch Command on their first visit before heading to the Outlands, whereas Defense Command is a hub level; the PSX player will visit this level three times. The enemy count is different as well, notably including a Hornet that was not present in Launch Command.
  • The first (and only) Ammo Pack in the game can be found in this location. While the player returns to Defense Command from Gravity Booster, Hornet destroys its home roof and encounters the player. An Ammo Pack and some shells and bullets are waiting for the player in its home which has an exit door to the intro of the complex.
