Well, isn't this ironic. How does it feel to be killed by your life's work? Does it feel good? Does it? Come on, how's it feel?
~ Nui killing Isshin Matoi.
Hate and love are two sides of the same coin. It’s like a finely-tailored suit with a food sturdy stitching. In other words, the deeper the hatred, the deeper the love grows.
~ Nui's most famous quote as she taunts Ryuko during their fight.

Nui Harime is the secondary antagonist of the 2013 Studio TRIGGER action anime series, Kill la Kill.

She is the Grand Couturier in service to Ragyō Kiryūin being one of her top two servants alongside Rei Hoomaru. She is also the killer of Ryuko Matoi's father, Soichiro Kiryuin, who disguised himself as Isshin Matoi, making her one of Ryuko's arch-enemies, alongside Ragyō.

She was voiced by Yukari Tamura in Japanese and by Stephanie Sheh in the English dub.

What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]

  • She happily assists Ragyō's plan to have the Life Fibers consume all of humanity and then cover the entire planet and blow it up out of a love for shedding blood and causing pain and suffering. She is even the very reason Ragyō' even came as close as she did to succeeding, being the very reason why Ragyō was able to commit the bulk of her atrocities by feeding all of Honno Town to the Life Fibers, and is equally culpable for the near end of the planet as Ragyō for the following reasons:
    • She is ultimately responsible for the bulk of the mass production of REVOCS clothing all across the planet, which all contain Life Fibers, to kickstart Ragyō's plan by selling them to every single human being.
    • She personally makes all of the COVERS that will be used to consume all of humanity, which is how Ragyō was able to have all of Honno Town consumed in the first place.
  • She sadistically murders Ryuko's father, Isshin Matoi (who was secretly Ragyō's husband, Soichiro). Even though it was under Ragyō's orders, she simply doesn't care, happily takes pride in doing the act regardless and constantly taunts Ryuko to provoke her over being the one who killed him.
  • She gleefully reveals herself to Ryuko as her father's killer to turn her into a rampaging abomination against Senketsu's will that threatened the lives of all the students in Honnoji Academy and nearly causing her to die from blood loss, all behind Ragyō's back simply for fun and to get back at Isshin for making a fool out of her.
  • She uses her seamstress skills to control Ryuko against her will and forces her to wear Junketsu against her will, mind-raping her to become her and Ragyō's mindless servant while implanting memories in her head. She and Ragyō even raped Ryuko, or just implanted memories of such in her brain, which is about as bad.
  • With Ryuko as her brainwashed servant, Nui sends her to destroy the Naked Eye and kill all of her friends and allies.
  • When Ryuko was freed by her friends, Nui attempts to take control over everyone in the Naked Eye and have Ryuko and her friends slaughter each other.
  • She threatens to kill Rei Hoomaru when she calls her out for how her wanton sadism jeopardized Ragyō's plan and tells her she has to apologize to her, coldly dismissing such notions.
  • She nearly kills Ira Gamagori by stabbing him.
  • When Ragyō's plan to annihilate humanity is placed in jeopardy upon heavy damage to both her and the Primordial Life Fiber, Nui happily casts down her mortal form to fuse and take control of the Primordial Life Fiber, then fuse with Ragyō and boost her power for a last-ditch attempt to annihilate humanity and blow up the planet.
  • While she happily serves Ragyō, is on amicable terms with her and has a rather twisted relationship with her, Nui is ultimately merely fanatical of her as Ragyō is the only one who enables Nui's sadism, only motivated out of a craving to cause death and destruction and serves her because she looks forward to the destruction that will occur the moment Ragyō wins. She will happily go behind Ragyō's back to cause mayhem and bloodshed just for fun.
  • While ultimately comedic, her comedy is ultimately dark and twisted in nature, which makes her more evil rather than less and accentuates how cruel she is. Her laughably evil traits even become more downplayed upon her breakdown for losing her arms.
  • While she is a hybrid made of Life Fibers, it is shown that other characters who have Life Fibers in them can choose to do good, such as Ryuko or Senketsu, and adding in that the Life Fibers are just instinctual parasites than personable sadists like Nui who can even withhold her urges to disguise herself as a heroic journalist, showing that Nui does possess moral agency. Nui has an in-depth understanding of her nature, and gleefully embraces it to see the world burn.

Trivia[]

  • She and Ragyō Kiryūin are the only two Kill la Kill villains to be Pure Evil.
  • She is one of the two Studio Trigger Pure Evils (alongside Vulcan Haestus) to not be the main antagonist of their works, compared to several Studio Trigger PEs being the main antagonist of their respective works. Ironically, both Nui and Vulcan are right-hands to the main antagonists of their respective works, who are also Pure Evils that carried out experiments on their own species and attempted to destroy the Earth.
  • It's been theorized that Nui is a daughter of Ragyo, which would make her Ryuko’s sister. If proven true, it would make her actions even worse.
