“ This one's mine. Cook her while I have the little one for an appetizer. You know, because I'm a meaner! „
~ Dag, before trying to kill the hens and Maddy the chick.

Dag is the main antagonist of Nickelodeon's 16th feature film Barnyard. He is a coyote who is the archenemy to Otis, leading a pack of other coyotes trying to kidnap the hens on the farm for food.

He was voiced by David Koechner.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He is an incredibly sadistic and cold-blooded leader of a band of coyotes who takes pleasure in inflicting the pain on the farm animals he prey. He is infamously known for killing several hens and chicken and always keep a keychain of their feet from his previous meals to frighten his victims.
  • He attempts to steal six hens away from the farm for food, threatening to take more if they make any noise.
  • He bites Ben in the leg, weakening him and allowing his gang to mortally wound him, even after Ben spares his life despite his better judgement. Ben later dies from his injuries.
  • He chases down a rabbit with his pack, intending on killing and eating it.
  • He blames Otis for Ben's death just to make him feel guilty.
  • He threatens to eat every animal on the farm if Otis tries to stop the coyotes from taking only a few animals per night. He then deliberately reneges his deal with Otis by kidnapping a large number of hens (including a chick named Maddy) in the morning instead.
  • He tries to eat Maddy just for calling him a "meaner", revealing that his true nature, willing to kill others just for insults that are very minor compared to his own actions.
  • He nearly kills Otis by doing a sneak attack on him in which he bites him in the leg and lets the rest of his gang attack him, the same way Ben died.
  • His sparing of Otis and his friends was done merely out of cowardice rather than genuine remorse since he had nothing to do to avoid his wrath.
  • He has no comedic moments or redeeming qualities and is taken completely seriously, unlike most - if not all - other characters in the Barnyard universe.
    • Even at one point where he made a fat joke when he told Otis "see ya around" and made a joke out of the "round" part it doesn't make him Laughably Evil as his loathsome villainy far outweighs it and the joke is completely minor due to his total cruelty and gleeful sadism.
    • His defeat, when he was kicked out of his junkyard by Otis with a golf club like a ball, is also comedic, but yet again, it can't make him less horrible.

Trivia[]

  • Some say Dag doesn't qualify due to him and his pack being predators. This is not a disqualification, however, because he takes sick pleasure in taunting and murdering his victims. He is also thin enough where some of his ribs can be shown, which heavily implies the whole food angle is just an excuse and he actually kills mostly for the fun of it.
    • Another debatable quality is his relationship with his pack, as he allows them to kill and eat the hens (even letting them choose which to take) and his pack faithfully follow his orders without a hint of fear, but it is not clear if he really loved or cared for them, or simply saw them as useful tools to do his bidding. Considering that he never got angry or upset whenever they get hurt, the latter is more likely.
