“ I'm going to shred you until there's nothing left to join StarClan. „
~ Brokenstar, threatening Firestar after killing Ferncloud.

Brokenstar is one of the secondary antagonists in the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. He is ShadowClan's tyrannical leader who was known for his brutality and for raising kits to battle from a young age. After his death via poisoning from his mother Yellowfang, he went to the Place of No Stars and tried to destroy the four forest Clans, getting killed by the same cat that killed him in life in the process.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • When Yellowfang gives birth to him, his muzzle is twisted into an unnatural grimace of anger, which was a warning sign from StarClan as Yellowfang broke the Warrior Code by giving birth as a medicine cat.
  • As an apprentice, when his adoptive siblings made fun of him, he responded by hurting both of them with no remorse for his action and turns on his mother despite her attempts of consolation.
  • He started a fight with two WindClan apprentices at his first gathering, foreshadowing his xenophobia.
  • He harshly trains his first apprentice, Stumpypaw (Later Stumpytail), which corrupted him into making him one of his supporters.
  • Yellowfang even received visions from StarClan about his tyranny, such as kits fighting to the death, further foreshadowing the monster he will become.
  • He took all of his father Raggedstar's nine lives, and pretended that WindClan killed him.
  • His goal after becoming ShadowClan's leader was to punish WindClan and make all Clans bow down to him. He also says that warriors will now only battle as hunting is of little importance and choosing a kit which was not of age to be his apprentice.
  • He even makes the other kits apprentices, ignoring protests from Yellowfang.
  • Later that day, he exiles the elders, claiming they would help their Clan most by leaving.
  • His apprenticeship of kits that were too young caused the deaths of many kits, notably Mosspaw and Badgerpaw (who chose the name Badgerfang before dying).
  • He killed two kits that were only half a moon old by tearing them apart.
  • To rub salt on the already-festering wound, he frames Yellowfang for the deaths of said kits and exiles her.
  • He drives away WindClan and takes their entire territory. While Firestar saved them, it could have caused them to die out.
  • During the gathering, he further frames Yellowfang by calling her a dangerous rouge who will be a threat to all kits for as long as she lives.
  • He tasks his deputy Blackfoot (Who would later become leader himself after redeeming) to kidnap ThunderClan's kits for ShadowClan to raise.
  • ThunderClan later attacks ShadowClan and drive Brokenstar out. The only cats who were fighting were Brokenstar's supporters, proving that no cat shows any sympathy for him.
  • This is also the moment where he reveals to Yellowfang (who is now ThunderClan's medicine cat) that he murdered Raggedstar and the half-moon-old kits, both with no remorse for his crime.
  • He conspires with Tigerclaw, ThunderClan's deputy, and launches an attack on ThunderClan. He is taken prisoner and poisoned by Yellowfang.
  • Many moons later, he and the other residents of The Place of No Stars attempt to destroy the Clans, which caused the Great Battle and led to many deaths.
  • He kills Beetlewhisker and Ferncloud during this time, before being killed a second time by Yellowfang, vanishing forever in the process.
  • While he was abused by Lizardstripe as a kit, it doesn't justify his crimes at all as he is foreshadowed to be a bad cat even from a young age.
