A mark is a special Ribbon-like mechanic introduced in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield.

Obtainability[]

Marks appear on a wild Pokémon when they are caught and have no way of being earned, unlike Ribbons. The player will be unable to tell if a wild Pokémon has a mark or not until they capture it. Pokémon that are obtained through Max Raid Battles or hatched from Eggs will never have marks. A wild Pokémon can only have one mark. The Gourmet mark can be obtained on Pokémon that already have a mark.

In the Isle of Armor, a scientist will give the player the Mark Charm after completing the Isle of Armor Pokédex. This special charm triples the chance of finding a wild Pokémon that has a mark.

Effect[]

When a Pokémon with a mark is sent out into battle, they will have a special title alongside their name. This does not have any other effect in or outside of battles other than it being a cosmetic change.
