"Welcome to Pokémon League! I am Lorelei of the Elite Four! No one can best me when it comes to icy Pokémon! Freezing moves are powerful! Your Pokémon will be at my mercy when they are frozen solid! Hahaha! Are you ready?"
— Lorelei in Red, Blue, and Yellow.

Lorelei (named as Lorelai in Red, Green, Blue and Yellow) is the leader of the Elite Four in the Kanto region. She specializes in using Ice-type Pokémon. Her strongest Pokémon is her Lapras. She lives on Four Island, and is known to have a large assortment of dolls.

Appearance[]

Lorelei is a lithe and curvy woman, whose hair has two pigtails and a ponytail. She wears a pair of glasses, with her eyes being hazel-colored.

In Generation I, Lorelei wears a blue jacket, a red shirt, and a black pencil skirt reveals her legs. She also wears a pair of black high heeled shoes. Lorelei has violet hair.

In Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version, Lorelei wears a black sleeveless shirt, a purple pencil mini skirt, black high heels and a golden bracelet around her right arm. Lorelei also has brown hair.

In Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!, Lorelei wears black clothes, with details in blue, she wears brown tights and a blue shirt underneath her clothes.

Personality[]

Confident and professional, Lorelei may look like a Librarian or Secretary. But deep down she's a child at heart, as evidence to her hobby of collecting dolls, meaning that she seems to have a habit of treasuring the past (or at least children's toys).

Etymology[]

The name Lorelei comes from "aurora" (often associated with cold areas).

Her Japanese name, Kanna, could originate from 寒 (kan, cold). It could also come from "Canna", a genus of flowering plants.

Trivia[]

  • In Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green, Lorelei is the only member of the Kanto Elite Four who does not use two Pokémon of the same species on her team.
  • Due to the Trainer AI in the Generation I games preferring to use moves that are of a type that's super effective against the player's Pokémon (regardless of whether the move damages or even affects the player's Pokémon) and AI trainers in the Generation 1 games having infinite PP for all their moves, if the player sends out a Pokémon that's weak against Psychic moves against her Dewgong, it will repeatedly use Rest despite the move having no effect on the player's Pokémon. This can result in the game softlocking under certain conditions. This was fixed in Yellow by having the AI check for Lorelei's Dewgong specifically and overriding the usual AI in that instance.
