Well, dear readers I have at long last made the trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to view the McQueen retrospective Savage Beauty now up through July 31st. I must say, crowd control aside, it was captivating to say the very least. The rooms were set-up by themes and contrasted starkly with one another between sheer opulence and stark materials. For months we have been bombarded with the show stoppers....the McQueen avant garde creations that really pushed the envelope. I too was guilty…

Clothing in ancient Greece was loose fitting, unlike the tight-fitting outfits worn by those people the Greeks considered barbarians. Both men and women typically wore sleeveless tunics. The women’s tunics were usually ankle length, while the men’s were shorter. For the common person, the color of cloth was plain. Those with the financial resources had their clothing dyed in various colors. During the winter, a heavy wool cloak was worn for warmth. Greeks went barefoot or wore sandals…

A chiton was made from a single rectangle of woolen or linen fabric. The chiton was kept together at the waist by a belt. Typically sleeveless, those who wore sleeved chitons were priests and actors in Greece. There are many different types of chitons.
