Hey Savage Supporters, feast your eyes upon the latest exciting chapter of the Necessary Evil saga, Necessary Evil: Cosmic Crisis! The villains are back, and badder than ever.
This time the pitiless group of scoundrels are Cosmic Powered (Power Level V), the mightiest of the mighty! What force could be strong enough to gather together such a titanic group of miscreants—and what threat could possibly be foreboding enough to warrant such a team-up? Here’s a hint: this suicide mission is aimed at none other than the ominous Outsider, the all-powerful space god prone to meddling in the fate of worlds like Earth.
We were too excited to save the best for last, so here it is right up front. Going all in on the Boxed Set crammed with goodies is the best deal for heroes and villains alike. Inside the Omega Level box set you’ll find:
- Necessary Evil: Invasion (revised). The original block-buster campaign is back, and updated for Savage Worlds Adventure Edition (SWADE) and the Super Powers Companion (SPC). Four-color villains (Power Level III) fight to save Earth from the clutches of the evil v’sori invaders. You might be a bad guy, but it’s still your planet these pesky aliens are tearing up. This book features the first appearance of the outrageous Outsider and the deadly Dr. Destruction. (Hardcover, 128 pages.)
- Necessary Evil: Breakout (revised). The pulse-pounding follow-up to Necessary Evil returns, revised for SWADE and the SPC, and with supplementary material for leading your own criminal gang now integrated into the book. While the villains of Necessary Evil: Invasion fought to save the world, the Street Fighter (Power Level II) ruffians of Breakout fight for their freedom (and their lives) in a New York City the aliens turned into a giant prison camp. Breakout takes place before the events of Invasion, so play it on its own, or as a piece of the larger story. Don’t miss this classic by the inimitable Shane Hensley! (Hardcover, 104 pages.)
- Necessary Evil: Cosmic Crisis. Years after the original invasion, a formidable group of Cosmic (Power Level V) scalawags get one chance to free themselves from an inter-galactic prison and save their own futures. The only catch? They have to kill the omnipotent Outsider first! Galactic fun and mayhem await. Cosmic Crisis can be played on its own, but it packs extra punch if your group played through the events of Invasion first! (Hardcover, 144 pages.)
- Necessary Evil Archetypes. A veritable rogues gallery of Power Level II, III, and V supers, suitable to be the stars of your Necessary Evil campaign—or handy villains for your own stories! Six characters for each Power Level, 18 archetype cards in all.
- Necessary Evil GM Screen. Beautiful art, illuminating tables, and a cunning shield to hide your nefarious plans behind. What could be better? How about a 32-page adventure for Four-Color (Power Level III) characters set on Earth: The Return of Dr. Destruction!
- Necessary Evil Pawns. You know and love our phenomenal Pawns: full color art, fronts and backs, sturdy 1.5mm punchboard construction, and unique cuts that match the figure’s silhouette. If you don’t know them, here’s your chance to find out what the fuss is all about. This set is four sheets, with the unique heroes and villains of all three parts (so far) of the staggering Necessary Evil saga.
- Necessary Evil Dice. Being a villain is all about style, and these colorful dice deliver! The usual suspects are all here: d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, and the mastermind behind the gang: our special d6 Wild Die.
- Necessary Evil Bennies. A set of 25 Bennies themed for Necessary Evil, useful in any of your favorite superhero or supervillain Savage Worlds games.
- Necessary Evil Action Deck. Our epic, oversize Action Deck chocked full of superior superhero themed art. Great for your Necessary Evil campaign, or anything from the Super Powers Companion.
- Star City Map/The Promise. This fold-out poster map features Star City, the mysterious metropolis created by the Outsider on Earth which hosts the events of the original story on one side. On the other, the deck plans for The Promise, the sleek starship the villains of Cosmic Crisis use for their intergalactic journey.
That’s three campaign books inside one box!
The Omega Level adds some goodies that aren’t included in the retail version of the Necessary Evil boxed set. They’re not actually inside the box (it’s crammed full), but they come with it when you order at the Omega Level!
- Special—Necessary Evil Map Pack #1: Cosmic Battlegrounds. Alien arenas useful for your cosmic confrontations. One side features the approach to an asteroid-riddled space base, the other a secret super-science lab. (The maps are 30″ by 24″ for epic super battles. Fold out, dry or wet erase.)
- Special—Metal Conviction tokens. Themed for Necessary Evil, these heavy metal coins add drama (and weight) to your supers games. (5 metal tokens.)
- Special—Omega Card Box. A premium box sized to fit our large Necessary Evil Archetypes (and the Super Powers Companion Archetypes), but works for the Action Deck and other cards as well. Features alternative art and a fancy magnetic closing flap.
While we think the boxed set is the best value, we understand that some customers might want just the new material, a specific item, or digital files only. We’ve got you covered! Pick the base Reward Level that best fits your needs and add on any other items to make your perfect order. You can also select individual items or extras later in the campaign, but the Reward Level bundles are designed to be a better value.

Necessary Evil: Cosmic Confrontation is written and in layout, and the updates are finished for both Necessary Evil: Invasion (revised) and Necessary Evil: Breakout (revised). Your support allows us to create the extras and get the word out to other fans (by far the hardest challenge for a small company like ours).
We plan to deliver the PDF of the book a few days after the project closes. We’ll gather feedback for a few weeks to help us catch any last-minute issues, then send it all off to the printer. Physical products arrive about 8-10 months later depending on shipping and any unexpected international issues like alien invasions or worldwide pandemics.
Digital Rewards
We deliver PDF materials through the Pinnacle website and DriveThruRPG.com.
Physical Rewards
You can add ANYTHING from our PEGinc.com store to your pledge! Please read this section completely before pledging so you choose the best way to order for your lifestyle.
Email [email protected] for an estimate to ship to your location if you don’t see it at checkout.
Option One: Ship ALL Items When Necessary Evil Arrives (ETA January 2024)
To add items that will ship when your Necessary Evil items arrive in print at our fulfillment center:
- Choose a PRINT reward level to the right and click “Pledge Now” and then “Add to Cart.”
- You’ll notice you’ve navigated off the main campaign page. Use the headers at the top of the website page to navigate to other sections to add to your order. Rifts® for Savage Worlds, or Pathfinder® for Savage Worlds? Deadlands: the Weird West? Flash Gordon? Or fan-favorite East Texas University? Your downloads will be immediately available. It’s only the physical products that will wait to ship.
- When you’ve added everything to your order, proceed to checkout. Remember, none of these items will ship until later next year when the rewards from this campaign arrive.
We’re using a special bulk rate for the reward level items which should automatically apply to any other items added to your purchase so you pay less for shipping overall.
Option Two: Ship Some Products NOW + Necessary Evil Rewards Later (ETA January 2024)
Your Necessary Evil items cannot ship until January 2024, but you don’t need to wait to get started playing! You will effectively place TWO orders at peginc.com.
- Choose a PRINT reward level to the right and click “Pledge Now” and then “Add to Cart.” Go immediately to checkout and complete your purchase. Please verify your shipping address now, just in case you forget to circle back. After the campaign ends your order will ship. You will have time to add to this order later.
- For your SECOND order, use the headers at the top of the website page to navigate to our many popular settings. What do you want to play right now? Rifts® for Savage Worlds, or Pathfinder® for Savage Worlds? Deadlands: the Weird West? Flash Gordon? Or fan-favorite East Texas University? Please note some items are arriving between this campaign period and January 2024. Your downloads are immediately available after checkout and your product ships in a few days. You will receive a tracking number emailed to you.
Option Three: I Prefer PDF!
No worries, friend. Please choose a DIGITAL reward option and then proceed to checkout. There are no benefits to adding other PDF Only products to your purchase—you can do that anytime you want! Your order will convert with download links after the campaign ends. Please DO NOT add VTT items to this order. Your license key will not be generated unless it’s placed separately.

This can be a HUGE shipping savings, especially for our international customers. You can add projects you missed to ship at the same time or even buddy up with your friends to make one larger order.
We hope our supporters recognize the value of a platform where 100% of the proceeds benefit the creators, feeding our families and keeping us making the incredible games you’ve supported for years.
Of course, the hardest thing about moving away from the “big guys” like Kickstarter is losing that visibility, so please help us make up the difference by letting others know about the latest GameChanger! We appreciate you, and we put our absolute best effort into every single adventure, setting, pawn set, and accessory we make!
Each campaign is meant for a different Power Level. Usually villains are built on a single Power Level and stay there, in which case each adventure would be experienced by a different group of villains who exist in the same world. The results of the campaign can carry over to the next, but usually not the “heroes.” It’s usual but possible for a villain to start at Power Level II in Necessary Evil: Breakout (chronologically the first story), experience an unusual event that bumps them up to Power Level III for Necessary Evil: Invasion, and then in the intervening decade somehow that villain ascends to Power Level V in time for Cosmic Crisis.
That’s not the standard way to do it, but it is a possibility!

First, you must have placed an order with one of our GameChangers. If you have not, go here to get started: https://peginc.com/gamechangers/
Navigate to your current pledge tier, listed as a “Crowdsource Hold” order on your Order Page (make sure you’re logged in!). As long as the Order Manager is open, you can click “Upgrade Order” to modify your pledge. You’ll see a confirmation box that explains how this works:
Your order is “canceled” and a store credit equal to your last order (or pledge) will wait for you at checkout.
It’s important that you keep the Reward Level title item in your cart while you navigate the site to add to your order. You can add anything from our store and take advantage of reduced shipping!
If you want to upgrade to a higher Reward Level, add the next level to your cart, then remove the first reward level.
You can then add a pledge tier of equivalent or higher value to your cart, plus any other products on the PEG store you’d like included in your order. Once you’ve made all your changes, you’ll confirm the order and pay any outstanding balance if you’ve upgraded/added other products.
WARNING: Your cart only persists for 48 hours. If you do not complete upgrading your order within 48 hours, you will need to contact [email protected] to finish your upgrade.
You can keep doing this until the Order Manager closes and your order is marked as “Processing“.
You’re charged the moment you place your order!
The easiest way for everyone to get their individual shipping rate is to add the pledge tier (and any other items from the PEGinc store you want included in the order) to your cart and hit “Checkout”. Once you fill out the first two tabs with your information, a line will appear on the “Review & Payment” tab with your shipping total.
If you’re new to Savage Worlds and you’re not exactly sure where to begin, we’ve got you covered! Click the link below to learn how to begin:

You will also find the newly published Poster Map, Battle Map #1, Action Deck, GM Screen Inserts, and Figure Flats files.

Take a moment this weekend to give your final feedback looks at the Necessary Evil campaign files! We’re closing feedback next Tuesday on 6/27.
You can find these draft files on your PEG Downloads page or your Order for links to download the following releases.
These links will take you to the feedback form, which are also linked individually in these products on the title page:

Collect those capes from the dry cleaners and dust off those utility belts, there’s a lot of Necessary Evil for you to enjoy this weekend! Visit your Downloads page or your Order for links to download the following releases.
These links will take you to the feedback form, which are also linked individually in these products on the title page:
- Necessary Evil: Cosmic Crisis v0.1
- Necessary Evil: Invasion (Revised Edition) v0.1
- Necessary Evil: Breakout (Revised Edition) v0.1
- Necessary Evil Archetype Cards v0.1
- Necessary Evil: The Return of Dr. Destruction Adventure v0.1
Which files you have access to depends on your pledge level.
We’re updating our versioning syntax! v is for version, the whole number is for the printing, and the decimal is for the revision. So PDFs of books and items that will be printed will start with “v0.1,” etc. during public review and when we send them to print they will be “v1.0” with any further updates before a potential second printing being “v1.1,” “v1.2,” etc. Files that are not slated for printing will remain in the v0.## paradigm.
As always, if you have any issues with your orders or accessing your files, reach out to us at [email protected]
You asked for it, you got it! While the special boxed set is the best deal, sometimes you just want a specific combination of the available items. The Necessary Evil GameChanger now has all the individual items offered available as either add-ons or as stand-alone pre-order purchases.
Build your bundle of super-villainy goodness your way! Just remember, the GameChanger closes on May 18. You can still order items afterwards, but they’re no longer discounted (prices and shipping) once the campaign ends.

Another month has passed, and I see from the PEG newsletter that ‘Final orders are shipping now’. What is the current position on UK/EU fulfilment, please?
International pallets are on the way.
Thank you for the information.
Received in the UK – will done by GMS
I see that shipping has started. Are oversees deliveries (specifically the UK) still coming direct from your US warehouse, or are they being handled by GMS Tabletop games?
Hey dbm, we’ll post an update with more information, but GMS will handle fulfillment for all of Europe!
My order is still listed on Crowdsource Hold. Did I miss something? The last thing I can find says estimated print delivery of January 2024.
Hey mattsincic, per the latest update our current shipping estimate is August!
Hello, I never received my order. About how long would it take for me to get my PDFs? I purchased it a few days ago I was just wondering how long it should take.
PDF delivery is nearly instant. Please reach out to [email protected] and they’ll get you sorted, thanks!
Thank you! I sent a message, hopefully I hear back soon
I had a problem as well, and when I sent my message, I got my PDF cleared for download right away. Hopefully your problem was resolved too.
The prison map on p127 of NE_Invasion_Revised pdf is cut off. Is there a way to get that full map for VTT use?
Hey Dennis, I updated the PDF so you can now click on that map to go to a full-sized version.
This is cool that we can get the updated map, as a download, but will the book be printed with the right map, or the truncated version?
Any updates on the print timeline? I’m looking forward to getting a campaign started, and running from PDF doesn’t work very well when playing in person.
Hi Justin,
NE3 is still at the printer, so we don’t have any specific updates at this time. Keep an eye on the bottom of our weekly newsletter for all of our crowdfunding update information.
Thanks
Hi, I’m not seeing the PDFs in my downloads is there something I need to do to make these appear?
my Order is currently Crowdsource Hold.
Hi Joshua,
Send an email to [email protected] with your order number/account email address and we can check on the downloads for you.
Thanks
Hello, I’m sorry to trouble you. I had preordered this campaign after it had finished (my order is #PEG-1093227). Is there anything I need to still do to get my rewards? Currently, the order is still listed as having a ‘Crowdsource Hold’ status. Thank you very much, and I appreciate the assistance.
Hi Miles,
Apologies, there was an issue with the download permissions on your order, but I’ve fixed that and you should see all of the files in your Downloads tab now.
If you have any further issues, please send an email to [email protected].
Thanks
Thank you very much for the quick help, Sara. I appreciate it!
I noticed that the DtRPG Box Set files was missing the Cosmic Crisis file and here on peginc.com the new files all still say Coming Soon
Hey thaleric, thanks for the heads up! Both issues should be fixed now.
Have a problem occured again? It seemed in the gamechanger and all promotions that we would get the files within days. Donalt reiterated that 23:rd of may. Now another week have passed and no files, I dont even have placeholders and I went All-in.
No problem Mogge, we should be cleared to release the first round of files as soon as today. We’ve pushed through a lot of code edits on our delivery software since the Rifts campaign, so we’ve been doing several rounds of testing with a staging server, etc. to minimize any issues.
Is there a date for when digital backers of NE:CC will receive their downloads?
Hey Nicholas, we’re currently working on that. We expect the playtest files to go out in the next few days!
Let me rephrase: As someone who bought “V. Necessary Evil Boxed Set (Digital)” are we receiving the existing products at the same time as the new items? Ive received zero in the way of emails or any other information concerning Any parts of the product sense backing it.
Hey Nicholas, For the first round of releases we’ll have the alpha versions of Invasion, Breakout, and Cosmic Crisis, the Archetype Cards, and the Return of Dr. Destruction adventure. The GM Screen inserts, the Map Pack, Figure Flats, Start City Map, and Action Deck will be coming later.
Thank you for the swift reply.
I’m ready.
We are too! The wait should not be much longer. Cheers!
I have just received my digital map packs for the PBMS and disconcertingly found that the digital maps are not suitable for VTT usage as they have the grids incorporated into the image instead of say a layer. Are you planning on implementing the map packs in the same way for this campaign? Is there any chance to change PEG’s stance on that type of digital product?
Hey Mathew, we recently realized there was a hiccup in our export pipeline for the battle maps that resulted in the grids not being on a separate layer. We’re going to work over the next few weeks to go back through all of the Map Packs released post-SWADE and update any affected maps to have the grids on a separate layer that you can toggle in a PDF viewer.
The ‘Deadlands: the Weird West’ – Kickstarter included some Stretch Goals, this ‘Necessary Evil’ – Game Changer doesn’t. I would be interested in the reasoning behind this decision.
Hey Hroth’ger, that’s because every project is different! Necessary Evil is styled like one of our Booster Campaigns, such as the Blood Drive or Hell on the High Plains Kickstarters. Stretch goals require additional production time, which means it takes longer for the initial PDFs to go out, which means it takes longer to get to the printer, which means it takes longer for folks to get their print books. We plan to have the Necessary Evil PDFs go out for feedback within a few days of the end of the campaign, not the weeks it would take if we did stretch goals!
Thank you for the fast answer. That’s an approach I like: if the campaign has any stretch goals, they should not complicate the main product of the campaign. :)
Talk about subtle homage – I just noticed the colour headings for this campaign are yellow, black, cyan and magenta – the literal four colours of four-colour comics.
Nice touch!
If I wanted to add another 5 Conviction tokens (I got all in with Omega level) to my pledge. Do I just click on the “Buy now”? Im not sure if it will be put together with my pledge from earlier or do I add them later when your own site allows to add items?
I just wanna do things correctly. :)
Hey Mogge, you should follow the directions in the “How do I upgrade my pledge?” FAQ item to upgrade your order. Once you hit upgrade and have your pledge tier in your account, you’ll add the conviction tokens to your cart and check out again!
I pledge the V.Necessary Evil Boxed Set (Digital), when will the pdfs be available? I´m still new to this. My order´s number is #543598
Thanks.
Hey blenfor0, per the shipping section, we plan on delivering the PDFs a few days after the campaign closes.
So is the $75 box-set (digital) the only way to get the three setting PDFs? I just want those three pdfs, not the other contents of the box set.
Hey Jay, we’re planning on publishing all of the individual products for purchase before the end of the campaign! We’ll post an update when they’re live, so your best bet is to back at the Just the Book (Digital) Pledge now and upgrade your order to include the other PDFs when they’re available.
Great to back this one too! The coupons worked great now as well. :)
I see that the bundle comes with Map pack 1. Will there be a Necessary Evil Map Pack 2 at some point?
Probably!
Hopefully the Pinnacle ‘star’ front of the conviction coins/tokens is repeated on the back?
It would be extremely good if they are a set that can be transferrable between SWAdE settings, rather than having some Necessary Evil specific text on the reverse or obverse. Then I may be able to add-on some more as extras? Conviction has become a useful mechanic across settings.
They look similar to the stretch goal we failed to reach for the Ghost Mountain Kickstarter. Landauer said, at the time, there maybe a good interchangeable alternative coming up in the near future. Hoping this is it.
They’re absolutely the evolution of the SG we didn’t unlock with GM. And we’re looking at getting the star cut all the way through, not just recessed. The “Pinnacle Star” shows up in NE, but it’s not exclusive and these would make great universal Bennies or Conviction Coins. And yes, we’ll open up individual product add-ons during the campaign so you can a la carte.
Woohoo!!
Thanks Landauer. Great news.
😁
Are the first two NE books required for the new book?
They’re in the same universe with plot threads that run through all three, but not required. Different power levels and plot points. You wouldn’t be harmed by starting with Cosmic Crisis.
Just to let PEG know: I tried to use the $5 coupon from Rifts South America but the system wouldn’t let me for some reason?
Thanks for letting us know! It’s likely an issue with that specific coupon, but we’ll look into it.
The system said that the coupon “didn’t belong to me” if that helps diagnostics.
That’s very helpful!
Absolutely AWESOME! I’ve played both original and break out campaigns and the game is wonderful! Can’t wait to upgrade it again.
Is there a way to get just the books – print – without the box set? As in, I would love to get the New book, as well as the revised for Necessary Evil and Breakout.
Hey Donovan, we’re planning on posting all of the individual products before the end of the campaign! We just want to keep things simple for the first few days.
Awesome, thanks!
