- January 1: Eiichiro Oda is born in Kumamoto, Japan.
1984[]
- November 20: Eiichiro Oda's favorite manga, "Dragon Ball", created by Akira Toriyama, was serialized in Shonen Jump. "Dragon Ball" became an influential hit for Oda to create One Piece 13 years later.[1]
1990[]
- At the age of 15 Eiichiro Oda writes his first manga shot story "Fly Up Boy" which scored 18 out of 30 in Shonen Jump.[2]

- Eiichiro Oda became an assistant initially for Shinobu Kaitani for Weekly Shonen Jump manga, "Suizan Police Gang". He would eventually become an assistant after the completion of this series with Masaya Tokuhiro and ultimately Nobuhiro Watsuki for his popular Jump manga "Rurouni Kenshin".[4]
