This belt is based on the first William Penn Belt. This belt was given to William Penn by the Lenape following the signing of the Great Peace Treaty of 1682. The figure with the white heart signifies Penn. The other figure represents the Lenape. The two diagonal lines indicate that the two groups will live side by side in harmony and they will support each other to protect the friendship. 19.5" length X 3.5" width. Brain tan leather. About 40 hours of production time. My wampum is based on traditional designs, style, and materials. The beads used are usually porcelain 8mm glass wampum beads in a dark blue and opaque white color strung on hand cut leather (commercially tanned elk or braintan leather) strips using artificial sinew. I very occasionally use traditional quahog wampum beads but they are very expensive. I produce legties, chokers, bracelets, belts, and custom work. My weaving style tends to be tighter weave so each piece is more durable and shows the pattern more clearly. A tighter weave is also a more traditional style. All items are guaranteed to arrive in quality condition. All items are meticulously crafted by hand. Slight variations and nuances in materials add character to each item. All beads used are porcelain glass or quahog shell and are not intended for heavy use. 15-day return for any item in new condition. All belts are display items. Wearable items (legties, chokers, and bracelets) are guaranteed for 1 year against manufacturing defects. Care for wearable wampum: It is not recommended that you get it wet (hand washing is ok but showering and bathing while wearing your wampum is not recommended). About every 2 months of continuous wear, it is recommended to treat your wampum with saddle soap (following the instructions) to remove the oils that the human skin generates followed by neatsfoot oil/mink oil to recondition the leather. This is like applying hand lotion for your leather. When you have applied the oil, use a soft bristle brush (old toothbrush works great) and gently scrub the beads.
