Her element isn't Fire, she's the Master of Amber, the power of absorption. She can emulate the power of anyone she's touched.”

Amber is an element in Ninjago; however, it was not given to the Original Master of Amber by the First Spinjitzu Master, as the first master created it by absorbing other Elemental Powers using amber from a magic tree. It is generally associated with the colors orange and amber.

History[]

Many years ago, a blacksmith from Metalonia envied the Elemental Masters of their powers. At the place where he lived, there was an ancient, crooked tree with a mystical amber ensnaring anything that got too close. He then used his blacksmithing skills to turn amber into the first Chronosteel to absorb fragments of Elemental Powers from their masters. In this way, the blacksmith created the new Elemental Power - Amber.[1]

After a hundred generations, Amber was passed down to Skylor's mother and then to Skylor. Skylor's father Chen had created the Staff of Elements out of Chronosteel and Blue Crystal. After the staff was destroyed, Chen used his daughter’s element (since she copied all the required Elemental Masters’ powers) to make him and his followers Anacondrai though a magic ritual. This caused her powers to be diminished for a long time.

After the Serpentine War, Ray created four Time Blades made from Chronosteel to strip the Time Twins's power over Time.

Years after the Merge, Sora used her Technology to create three elemental mechs using Chronosteel.

  • Elemental Replication - It allows the user to absorb and replicate the powers of other Elemental Masters by only physical contact. However, the user does not keep the absorbed powers permanently. They absorb a limited amount that they will then deplete by using it, or the power will fade away in time.[2][3] When Skylor replicates an Elemental Master's powers, she also takes time to learn how to use them and record an attack technique to use it as their own.
    • Elemental Combination - Users of Amber can combine the Elemental Powers they have gathered to help attack or escape from enemies. There is only one known drawback with this maneuver: the user would become exhausted from the strain of using more than one element at the same time.[4] However, that seems to depend on either the effort or amount of time the user puts into combining the powers.[5]

Trivia[]

  • Amber has the same powers as Chen's Staff of Elements (Chronosteel and Blue Crystal), except Skylor replicates elemental powers and Chen's Staff absorbs elemental powers.
  • The elemental symbol of Amber is (), which means "six" in Mandarin and Cantonese, hinting on the fact that there could be a possibility of her being the sixth ninja.
  • Skylor revealed in "Iron & Stone" that her powers had returned after the status of her powers being unknown since the conclusion of Tournament of Elements.
  • In "Saving Faith," Skylor was corrupted and almost killed when she tried to use the power of Destruction. This could be because Skylor was trying too hard, though it is more likely that Amber cannot control elemental essences like Golden Power, Destruction, Creation, Energy, and Darkness as easily as normal elements, which is supported by Tommy Andreasen saying that trying to absorb the power of the First Spinjitzu Master would "probably cause her to explode."[6]
    • However, in the Tournament of Elements, she had absorbed all the elemental powers required for the Spell of Transformation, including Lloyd's Energy.
  • According to Tommy Andreasen, the element's name was the Hageman Brothers' idea.[7]
    • He also stated, "it 'adapts' and 'absorbs' ... and it sounds cool and fits her colors."
  • There was to be a story called Amber Legacy based on the family line of this power. The story would have introduced Skylor's mother and explained why she wasn't in the Serpentine War, why she married Chen, and what her ultimate fate was.[8] The story's development was halted due to the poor distribution of the Dark Island Trilogy.[9]
    • As of Amber Spiral, it was revealed that Amber is the third elemental power to not have been controlled nor created by the First Spinjitzu Master, following Water and Wind.
