Trippers[1] are one of the few harmless creatures found in Super Metroid.

Description[]

They live in the Crateria and Norfair sections of Zebes, where they fly in a repetitive horizontal line in the air, releasing a small jet of blue flames to propel them on their way. They are very useful for reaching difficult places due to them having a small platform on their backs, allowing Samus to ride on them.

Some of them, however, have less strength than others and, when jumped onto, will slowly begin to lose altitude, sometimes making them quite tricky to use. When Samus jumps off of a Tripper losing altitude, it is revealed that the creatures possess a second jet located on their undersides, which is only activated to bring the Tripper back to its original altitude while the horizontal jet is temporarily shut off.

These creatures can be killed by a Super Missile or a Power Bomb.

Based on the name and design, the Tripper appears to be a relative of the Ripper II.
