Samus Aran's Final Cry (サムス アラン最後の叫び )[1] is the short theme that plays during the Game Over sequences of Super Metroid and Metroid: Samus Returns. It was composed by Kenji Yamamoto.
Description[]
The short theme represents Samus Aran's scream when she dies. It samples a recording of a woman's voice, which can be distinctly heard echoing during the track's final seconds.[2] The sound can be listened to below, with an edit for pitch and speed.[3]
The theme was slightly updated for Samus Returns, with the theme now incorporating a higher-quality explosion sound over Samus' scream.
The Super Metroid version can be heard here: [1], and the Samus Returns version here: [2].
Trivia[]
- Minako Hamano originally recorded a voice for Samus Aran during the Game Over sequence, but it had sounded too sexual and was removed.[4] It is unknown whether the female voice sampled in Samus Aran's Final Cry was recorded by Hamano.
