Stay informed with the latest transmissions about the world of Metroid Dread.

The Metroid Dread Report is a blog on metroid.nintendo.com that provides updates and news for Metroid Dread. This includes in-universe information and messages from the Metroid development team at Nintendo. The first entry was published on June 15, 2021, the day the game was announced. Both subsequent entries were each published fifteen days apart, on June 30 and July 15, respectively.

Volume 4 was released on August 6, the 35th anniversary of the Metroid franchise.[1][2]

Volume 5 was released on August 20th.[3][4] Volume 6 was released on August 27th, and is the first Dread Report to have its release date announced.

Volume 6 was also released immediately after the airing of Metroid Dread - Trailer 2, and covered large portions of the trailer.[5]

Volume 7 was released on September 10, 2021, and provides in-depth coverage of the Chozo as a whole, and more specifically the mysterious Chozo and Chozo Soldier enemies.[6][7]

Volume 8 was released on September 22, 2021, and gives coverage of the various areas of ZDR,[8][9] specifically all of them except Elun, Hanubia, and Itorash. It also describes a number of creatures found in these areas.[9] In addition, the Sounds of Dread trailer, or more accurately, the segment airing immediately after the trailer during the September 23 Nintendo Direct livestream, makes direct reference to Volume 8.

Volume 9 was released on September 30, 2021, less than a week before the game's release date. It includes tips for the game, primarily for new players but also for veterans.[10][11]

Volume 10 was released on October 7, right before launch day.[12][13]

A surprise Volume 11 was released on December 1, 2021.[14][15]

Trivia[]

  • Volume 4 includes higher-resolution versions of four Chozo Memories, with minor differences from the in-game artwork from Metroid: Samus Returns. The Japanese version of Volume 4 includes all four memories, while the American website excludes memory 9/11 and the UK website excludes memory 1/11.
  • The Nintendo UK version of Volume 4 uses higher-resolution artwork than either the American or Japanese websites, although not as high resolution as the artwork later tweeted by Nintendo of America. Oddly, the Metroid Fusion artwork is over-saturated in color on the UK website, which is not an issue present with the other games' artwork.
  • Both Quetzoa screenshots in Volume 8 have the words "cheat detected" displayed at the bottom right corner of the screen. Presumably, the developers were using debug features to take these screenshots.
