The Gobbler[1] is a hatch-blocking creature found on ZDR in Metroid Dread.
Description[]
Similar to Gadoras, Gobblers block important doors as markers for upcoming boss confrontations. Their bodies cover not only the door, but also the entire hallway leading towards it. When approached, a Gobbler becomes increasingly agitated, before it rushes forward at Samus, extending its body. She can Melee Counter it when it does this to destroy it, giving her a large amount of Energy and ammo. Later, they become infected by X, but act and look identically to their non-infected counterparts.
A Gobbler can also be killed with a Shinespark, though this is often less practical than weapon fire as to reach a Gobbler with the Speed Booster requires careful movements and timing.[2]
Trivia[]
- Gobblers appear in every area on ZDR in Metroid Dread, save for Dairon, Hanubia, and Itorash.
- The Gobbler's name may be a pun on Gadora, another hatch-blocking enemy. A Spanish word for "gobbler" is tragadora, a word which itself contains the name Gadora.
- Unlike other door obstacles, Gobblers do not appear on the Map before being destroyed.
