The A2K program considers the requests for support only from Wikimedians and recommends or approves such permission according to certain criteria for eligibility. A2K encourages community members to request support towards their work on various Wikimedia projects, via this request page and has accordingly revised its policies and guidelines in keeping with the nature of requests received. The following is an updated set of guidelines to be applicable from the APG 2022-23 onwards: Relevance: All requests should be placed in the proper section as described below. Community discussion: In many cases, to process the request, community discussion and consensus is a must. So, please consult your community on the respective village pump/mailing list etc. Even in remaining cases where community consensus is not a must, you are encouraged to first discuss the request within your community (on your respective Indic Wikimedia project) and discuss it before placing a request here. You need to wait at least 7 days after starting a village pump/mailing list discussion to get a community response. Please share a link to such a discussion. Assume good faith: We will try to respond as soon as possible. sometimes there might be delays. Based on the difficulty of requested support, there might be delays as well. Please assume good faith. Nature of Support At present, there are two kinds of support offered as part of the general support under CIS-A2K: Financial Internet support: This is provided in the form of internet data packs to enable Wikimedians to contribute across various projects. IT Allowance: This is provided to purchase required IT accessories and gadgets like computer accessories, voice recorders, mics etc. which would aid in further enhancing their contribution to the free and open knowledge content across Wikimedia platforms. Community Events and Projects support: This is provided for specific projects, such as events or activities related to Wikimedia platforms ( for example, logistics and travel for edit-a-thons etc.) Project specific IT Allowance: The Wikimedian’s user groups or the communities may apply for this support to procure devices like scanner, camera, tablet, laptop etc. needed to facilitate their work on various projects. Non-financial Support Intellectual Support: This is support towards planning, coordination and sharing best practices for any work undertaken on Wikimedia projects. Merchandise Support: This is related to sharing A2K merchandise or swag/promotional materials as part of Wikimedia events and projects. Technical Support: This is related to addressing technical queries and troubleshooting various Wikimedia projects. The guidelines and criteria are different for each kind of support mentioned in this policy. • What are the Proposed activities? As discussed on the village pump of Gujarati Wikipedia, we are organising this editathon to create content in the various fields of Gujarati literature which includes but not limited to evolutionary phases of Gujarati language, different eras and works of Gujarati literature, various dialects of the language, important people and organisations who contributed significantly for Gujarati. We are encouraging editors to make pages of subjects, which are not yet created on any Wikipedia projects, by giving more points, apart from translations and update of existing pages.

• What are the Expected impact? First, major impact would be more content related to this field on the Wikipedia. In previously organised editathon on Gujarati Culture and Civilisation, the editors created 160-odd pages in a fortnight, therefore, we are expecting the similar response in this editathon too. Second, as I have aforementioned it, some pages would be freshly created in Gujarati Wikipedia which can be translated in multiple languages with advanced tools. Third, it will encourage editors to contribute more and may attract newbies to join.

• What is the Estimate budget (give it with a detailed break-up)? Not more than 12,500.

• Hi @Tito (CIS-A2K): Thank you for approving the editathon. I think Vijay has addressed the concerns specified. However, I would like to clarify a couple of points here: 1) Our community is small and the participation depends on multiple factors which are uncertain. Thus, sadly, we can't take a guarantee of the ratio. Additionally, we are not certain about condolence prizes, so, we have fixed a upper threshold limit on the number of prizes. Like, last time, just one condolence prize was needed whereas we talked about "upto 4 prizes" in request. 2) We want to work on the qualitative content, not only quantitative, which can be outwardly translated to other projects including English Wikipedia. Therefore, the community is planning to develop a score matrix which would give enouragement to the original articles instead of translations.

You all know that West Bengal Wikimedians User Group has been conducting wiki activities all over West Bengal since 2017 with dignity. During Covid19, the user group stopped offline activities. At the present time everything is going to be normal. Offline activities may begin later this year. Laptops are required for conducting offline activities or workshops, which are taken from different users. Many times not all users have a laptop. As a result, the problem can be seen conducting workshops. So, the user group needs at least one laptop. I am requesting CIS A2K to provide a laptop to the West Bengal Wikimedians User Group. • What are the Proposed activities?

• The Odia Wikimedia projects have been benefited a lot from the digital archival work by Bhubaneswar-based organisation Srujanika for many years now -- from over 1 lac words being created on Odia Wiktionary from the Purnachandra Bhashakosha (digitised by Srujanika and hosted by the University of Chicago) to several books on Odia Wikisource to even finding reference materials for Odia Wikipedia articles thanks to their online archival https://odiabibhaba.in. They recently reached out to us to request to CIS-A2K for a scanner that can use for sometime for their digitisation work. Though they had their own scanners, they faced technical difficulties with outdated equipment which hampered their work. The User Group's conversation with them have been in the line of asking them to share the scanned Public Domain text so that the same can be beneficial for Odia Wikisource. In short, the proposed activities would be:
• Srujanika will scan text in their collection and will share with the User Group all Public Domain (and other text that are licensed under open and public licenses and are compatible with accepted licenses on Wikimedia projects) works
• The User Group could host the text on Wikimedia Commons to be later used by different Wikimedia projects
• Majority of the scanned text will make their way to Odia Wikisource but some will also contribute to other projects (e.g. to Wikipedia as reference text)
• When physical movement will be safer, User Group members and other Wikimedians can also visit the Srujanika premises in Bhubaneswar for scanning.
• As processing the request here would a couple of weeks, we expect the actual work to start around the beginning of April. The work will continue for six months after which we will evaluate the progress to discuss with CIS-A2K further about continuation/discontinuation of the scanner support.

• What are the Expected impact?

• Many physical books in Srujanika's collection are not only rare (and out of print) but are quite brittle and are prone to being perished very soon. The only way to archive the text is to scan them immediately. Srujanika has a very exhaustive digital library management system and catalysing their work through this scanner will help preserve text that is yet to be documented digitally. Some of the works are already in Public Domain and some will be in due course. But it is important that they are archived digitally before they are completely unavailable in physical form. So, having many such works scanned is the primary priority.
• Works under Public Domain and other Wikimedia-compatible licenses are going to be directly uploaded to Commons. As more works enter into Public Domain (in the US where the Wikimedia servers are hosted), they will also be uploaded on Commons, even they might be beyond the timeframe of this project.
• We consider Srujanika as a natural ally to the Wikimedia movement and supporting their work will have a long-term impact on the open knowledge movement.

We have received a grant for a scanner in 2018 for Gujarati Wiki community. We have scanned many books since for Gujarati Wikisource community and we have benefited immensely from it. At the time of requesting the grant, we did not know that the scanner is only compatible with a Windows OS laptop. I, Gazal world, was a custodian of the scanner and had a Chromebook which was not compatible. As I was hesitant to have another grant request for a laptop, I used a laptop of a friend when the scanner was in my custody. Since I have moved to another city and have no longer access to my friend’s laptop. Several members of the community could not lend the scanner because they did not have a laptop too. We realised that a scanner along with a laptop will result in better utilization of the scanner by the community. So on behalf of Gujarati Wikisource community, I am requesting a laptop which will be used along the scanner and will be lent to the community along with the scanner. The Gujarati Wikisource community have endorsed my proposal here on village pump. The laptop will also help us for presentations and other purposes in offline meetups and workshops. The laptop will also host scanned offline resources and tools for the use of the community as well. I am a volunteer at Resource Exchange noiceboard on English Wikipedia (My contribution), and I also run similar Resource Exchange page on Gujarati Wikipedia (My contribution). Due to pandemic (Covid-19) I lost my job in March 2020.... I've been regular editor of Urdu Wikipedia and sometimes I edit English Wikipedia as well. My global editings can be seen here.- During these times somehow I managed to recharge and used internet but now I think it has become impossible to recharge due to expensive recharges. The budget of the laptop you have mentioned is much higher than the laptops supported by CIS, or during Project Tiger. However we understand that you need this laptop is needed for developing-related work, which might be difficult or impossible in general laptops. Thanks for giving the clarification. We have the following the questions/observations:

1. Please note if we support this it will be an asset of CIS, and it will be given to the user group for using.
2. We would need a contact person/custodian from the user group, who we will contact.
3. Your team is doing very good work to support Wikimedia projects, we would like to know about the interesting work you are doing. Could you share a brief report in every three months?
4. If we support, initially we can give it for one year, if the usage report etc are done, we'll gladly extend it for a year.
5. We agree with Krishna's suggestion of preparing an asset-management sub-page on Meta-Wiki, and we are asking the same.

আমি যে ল্যাপটপ ব্যবহার করি তা দিয়ে বাংলা উইকিপিডিয়া সম্পাদনা করছি সাড়ে আট বছর ধরে। আমার ল্যাপটপে ইনস্টলকৃত র‍্যাম রয়েছে ৪ জিবি। যদিও এই র‍্যাম কখনোই যথেষ্ট ছিল না কিন্তু তারপরেও আমি পূর্বে মোটামুটি কাজ চালাতাম। শুরুতে ল্যাপটরের গতি দ্রুত থাকলেও আস্তে আস্তে হ্রাস পেয়েছে। বিশেষ করে বছরখানেক আগে যখন উইন্ডোজ ১০ ইনস্টল করেছিলাম, তখন থেকে ল্যাপটরের গতি উল্লেখযোগ্য পরিমাণে হ্রাস পেয়েছে। বর্তমানে ল্যাপটপ চালু করলেই ল্যাপটপ ৯০-৯৬%, কখনো কখনো ১০০% র‍্যাম ব্যবহার করছে।

এই পরিমাণ র‍্যাম ব্যবহারের ফলে, ল্যাপটপ বর্তমানে সর্বদা খুব ধীর গতিতে কাজ করে। এই কারণে আমার উইকিপিডিয়া সম্পাদনাতেও সমস্যা হচ্ছে। বর্তমানে আমাকে আস্তে আস্তে কাজ করতে হয়। আমার ইন্টারনেট গতি বেশ ভালো হলেও, আমার ব্রাউজার কোন ওয়েবপৃষ্ঠা লোড করতে বেশ কয়েক সেকেন্ড বেশি সময় নেয়। নিবন্ধ সম্পাদনার প্রয়োজনে, তথ্যসূত্রের জন্য অনেক সময় ৫-৬টা বহিঃসংবাদ সাইটে যাওয়া দরকার হয়, অনেক সময় বিভিন্ন কারণে একাধিক ট্যাব খোলা রাখতে হয়, যেমন ধরুন যদি কোন টেমপ্লেট ঠিক করার দরকার হয়; ফলে দেখা যায় আমার ব্রাউজারে ১৫-২০টি ট্যাব সর্বদা খোলা থাকে। এতগুলি ট্যাব খোলা থাকার কারণে প্রচুর র‍্যাম খরচ হয় ও ল্যাপটপ ধীর হয়ে যায়। এই যে অবস্থার কথা বর্ণনা করলাম তা কেবল একটা অ্যাপ খোলা থাকাতেই হয়, একাধিক অ্যাপ খোলা থাকলে তো কথাই নেই। আমি আফতাব বট নামে একটি বট অটোউইকিব্রাউজার ব্যবহার করে চালাই। ফলে যখন দুইটা অ্যাপ (ব্রাউজার ও অউব্রা) একত্রে চালাই ল্যাপটপ আরও ধীর হয়ে যায়। একই কারণে আমি সম্পাদনা করলে অউব্রা বন্ধ রাখি, বটের জন্য অউব্রা চালালে সম্পাদনা বন্ধ রাখি। দুইটা একত্রে চালালে ল্যাপটপ তো খুব ধীরগতির হয়ে যায়ই, সাথে সাথে পুরো সিস্টেম ক্র্যাশ হওয়ায় সম্ভাবনা থাকে (আক্ষরিকভাবেই ২ দিন আগে ঘটেছিল)।

এখন এই সমস্যা উত্তরণে, আমার ল্যাপটরে আরও র‍্যাম যোগ করা দরকার। আমি খোঁজখবর নিয়ে দেখেছি, আমার ল্যাপটপে ৮ জিবি পর্যন্ত র‍্যাম ইনস্টল করা যাবে। এখন আমি ৮ জিবি র‍্যাম কিনতে চাচ্ছি। ৮ জিবি র‍্যাম কিনতে খরচ পড়বে ৩৮ পাউন্ড। এই জন্য যদি সহায়তা পাওয়া যায় তবে খুব ভালো হয়। --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 02:08, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I, Gazal world, am active Wikimedian primarily working on Gujarati and English Wikipedia as well on Gujarati Wikisource. I support and make available references/resources and books available for resource exchange requests on Gujarati and English Wikipedia. I make arrangements of books for Gujarati Wikisource as well. I am currently annual member of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad which is one of the oldest and biggest literary institution in Gujarat. They have a large library holding of rare works. I regularly visit it to fulfill resource requests. Due to financial constraints, as I am a student, I can not be a lifetime member and have opt for annual membership instead which costs me Rs. 500. If CIS can support me, I could apply for lifetime membership which only costs Rs. 2000. I could not afford large sum so have to go with annual membership which I arrange with some difficulties as well. If I have lifetime membership, it would be very helpful for me to serve Wikimedian community better. It would also help me in my work on Wikipedia as well. Background

• Share Your Struggle 2021 is a public photo competition on Wikimedia Commons. The motivation of the project is to improve coverage of free usable media files related to various struggles, such as social movements, natural disasters, health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, conflict-torn areas, and any other humanitarian crises. The goal is not only to document crises, but also humanitarian efforts and acts of kindness that happen during such crises.

Proposed activities

• The campaign starts from 15 August 2021 and ends on 31 August 2021. During the campaign period, the participants can upload images and videos on Wikimedia Commons related to various struggles which are in scope of the project goals. The struggles can be like social movements, health crises, natural disasters, conflict-torn areas and other forms of humanitarian crises.
• After the campaign period, the jury members will declare the winners and respective prizes will be awarded to the winners upon confirmation. All the prizes will either be Amazon or Flipkart gift vouchers, issued in the full legal name of the prize winner.

Expected impact

• Number of participants: 50
• Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons: 1500
• Number of videos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons: 10

Note: This is the first iteration and is a pilot with only 15 days as campaign period, so we would like to keep the target metrics as modest as possible. We want to significantly focus on learning the complexities involved in scaling this campaign for future iterations.

Estimated budget

• Prizes: Rs. 37,500
• Merchandise (for winners, jury members, and organizers): Rs. 8,000
• Travel and Outreach funds: Rs. 8,000
• Misc: Rs. 3,500

Total: Rs. 57,000

I'm requesting for laptop battery for my HP Pavilion G4 Notebook PC. For last some days I'm unable to edit wiki properly due to battery issue. It turns off automatically as electric cut off (It shut down automatically when the power goes out). Earlier it was working for 2/3 hours after charging but now it shut down automatically if the charging status is 100%. Now a days I'm editing during the time of electricity but as electricity cut off I can't edit a single word. It has destroyed my several pages which I was writing due to suddenly electricity cut off. I'm requesting to CIS-A2K to provide battery for that mentioned model so that I may continue editing without these issues. Its approximately 2k (may be between 1500 to 2000) on Amazon. • Community discussion: Talk:The Deoband Wikimedia User Group#Need for a laptop

I'm here in order to request a laptop for The Deoband Wikimedia User Group, which aims to write/improve articles related to the famous Deobandi movement that originated from the Indian town of Deoband. The group aims to write/improve articles related to scholars, books, institutions, freedom fighters that associated with this movement. We will organise workshops, meetups and online/offline training programs among the graduates of famous such institutions like Darul Uloom Deoband, and around Jamia Millia Islamia; and we need a laptop to achieve this goal. During the first ever Wikipedia related workshop in Deoband, we faced a lot of problems due to the absence of a laptop. I organised that workshop, called the Deoband workshop, completely with my own efforts (through the Dehalvi Wikimedia User Group), with help of some local friends. Just because, we had no laptop, the attendees failed in understanding a number of things. Now that we've started a specific group to work solely on Deoband related issues, a laptop will be a huge aid in this initiative.

It becomes difficult to train new editors showing them different Wikimedia related things, such as Wikidata, on the mobile phone. We also have to collect some books which aren't available online, and we get PDFs only to use them for references, and we can't even upload them due to issues related to copyright. To store such books, this laptop will be very much helpful. As I said above, we will organise training programs and workshops among the students of associated madrasas, the requirement of laptop increases much. I request CIS to provide us a good compatible laptop, at least with 1TB memory, 4GB RAM and with Windows inbuilt, since it'll make our works feasible including online training programs. So, to mark these two important days along with celebrating the birth centenaries of Chunilal Madia and Suresh Joshi, we want to organise an online editathon for a month in which the pages on not much covered topics like Gujarati language, sociology, psychology, science and technology, history can be created or updated. The criteria, threshold, and other things will be in line with the two editathons we organised previously.

• What are the Expected impact? More content creation on Gujarati Wikipedia; encouraging editors to contribute more; updatation of old pages.

Punjabi Wikimedians got a camera from WMF in 2016. The User Group needs a new camera now to continue various activities. We have done expeditions in 2017, 2018. One of the focuses of this will be to gather images of villages near district Ludhiana and Patiala. Most of the articles about villages in Punjabi Wikipedia are without any images this will help in improving them. In this project, we(Benipal hardarshan, Harshaan Ghuman and others(if interested)) will travel to the location to click the picture and we will upload them to commons under a certain category for records. After that, we will use those pictures in village articles. We will also do similar projects like this in the future.

• What are the Expected impact?

We will upload more than 500 images and we will also add them to there respective articles on Punjabi Wikipedia.

• What is the Estimate budget (give it with a detailed break-up)?

1. Camera(Nikon Z6) = Rs1.50Lakh

I have been a Wikipedian since 2004. My username is Pavanaja. I am active in Kannada, Tulu Wikipedias and sister projects. I am a founder member of Karavali Wikimedians User Group. I regularly conduct outreach activities like presentations about Wikipedia, editathons, training workshops. These programs involve presentations and demonstrations which invariably need a projector. Most places where I go do have projectors, but unfortunately, most of them are very old. They don't have HDMI input and hence the URLs are not displayed properly on the screen. I need a better projector which has these features - small, high lumens (>=3000), portable, HDMI,USB, WiFi connections, short-throw, auto keystone. CIS-A2K has two such projectors bought for the use of community. I will be starting next series of workshops on training of Wikipedia editing starting on Dec 4, 2021. Hence I request CiS-A2K to provide me one projector to use. Initially I may be given to use for a period of 3 months. If the workshops are extended beyond 3 months, I will request again. If CIS-A2K has any swags available like T-shirts, stickers, badges, I would like to collect them also to distribute to the deserving participants. My answer to the question is yes. But we don't have a specific discussion page. We mostly do our discussions in Whatsapp or just by conference calls. I am the member to coordinate. I will be conducting a series of Wikipedia Content Translation workshops in collaboration with a Karnataka Govt Dept. As already mentioned, they do provide venue with projector, but they are very old. Hence I need a better one. Each workshop will consist of about 30 participants. Due to significant improvement in Covid situation in the state, currently book fair etc. have been allowed by the Govt. of Assam. So, Assamese Wikimedia Community is planning to organise a small-scale One day Wiki Meet during the Guwahati Book fair 2021(29|12|2021-2022).

The Assamese Wikimedia Community doesn't have any such fund and therefore, I have the honour to submit the tentative budget for this programme on behalf of the community. The dicision has been taken through a discussion at village pump here.

ਮੈਂ 2020 ਤੋਂ ਵਿਕੀਮੀਡੀਅਨ ਹਾਂ। ਮੇਰਾ ਵਰਤੋਂਕਾਰ ਨਾਂ Gill jassu ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕੀਪੀਡੀਆ, ਵਿਕੀਸੋਰਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਰਗਰਮ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹਾਂ, ਇੱਥੇ ਇੰਟਰਨੈਟ ਦੀ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਕਾਰਨ ਮੈਨੂੰ article edit ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇੱਥੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਕੰਮ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਇੰਟਰਨੈੱਟ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਦੀ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ, ਜੇਕਰ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇੰਟਰਨੈੱਟ ਰਿਚਾਰਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ।

Hello CIS A2K team,

I am a volunteer editor in Wikipedia. Contributing in Bengali, English, Commons. First of all I am grateful to you for your earlier all supports to be a better Wikipedian than before. I need a fibre cable net connection for three months for this since my present connection will be over after few days. I am asking for three months for two reasons since I hv to go to Kolkata for 6 months to take care of my mother and there normal mobile connection is working satisfactorily but in Delhi where I am staying now, it is creating too much problem inside our home. Sometime I hv to stand on the road to upload images on commons or go to some neighbour's house to avail their wifi. But that is not at all good in this COVID situation. I had a talk to one service provider for the same, they will provide router and three months connection for Rs 3100/-. Pls provide me this opportunity to continue my contribution. Thanks in advance.
