Revision as of 15:41, 21 February 2007
For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewards IRC channel (see a web-based IRC client). In emergencies only, type !steward
in the channel to inform stewards that you need help.
Please only make requests here after gaining the approval of your local community.
When requesting permissions, copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Please fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

CheckUser access
To request CheckUser information, see Request for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted.
Stewards: When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy regarding bestowal of status before giving the status. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, and email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list (the list may contain confidential information).

Oversight access
Do not initiate an oversight request here. The Arbitration Committee will make the request once there is consensus on the local wiki (this process is currently for en-Wikipedia only).
Stewards: When you give someone oversight access, list them on Hiding revisions.
no current requests.
Removal of access
You may request that your own access be removed here; stewards will grant such requests immediately if you provide proof that you are the same user on meta as on your local wiki. This may be accomplished most easily by placing a note in English on your local talk page confirming your request.
To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a very brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion.
Navajo Wikipedia
I ask for steward review of nv:User:Node ue and de-sysoping of him if he persists in block evasion on the Navajo Wikipedia. This user was trolling and vandalizing articles and making legal threats and other forms of threats on the Cherokee and Navajo Wikipeedia. He was blocked on the Cherokee Wikipedia then resorted to sockpuppetry on The English Wikipedia and attempt to troll and harass admins on other Wikis. He is not a native speaker of Navajo and appears to be a interwiki troll on sites which support languages he is not fluent in. He is not responsive to reasonable dialogue. At a minimum, please de-sysop the user until his block expires. This user has been de-sysopped on other Wikipedias for admin abuse. I recommend a one month block and cool off period for this user.

- Well, I hope you guys will see this for what it is: sheer insanity. The key part of the above I would like to direct you to is that he accuses me of "block evasion" on a Wikipedia where I am a sysop. This user has harassed me since he arrived at the Navajo Wikipedia. Last time I checked, there was no rule against unblocking onesself, but he acts as if this is some sort of horrible offense. He has accused me of many things, and when I ask him for diffs and citations of policy I have broken, he simply repeats himself and tells me again that I am breaking rules. There is a good chance he will delete my responses from his "incidents" page, so if you would like to know both sides of _that_ story, you may want to check the history. --Node ue 23:41, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, I am impressed with what you have done as a non-speaker of Dine. And yes, I do speak enough Dine to get by. I have been involved with the Dine since my childhood. I grew up in New Mexico and went to Dine ceremonies frequently as a young man. I also run a Native American Church in Utah and Ronnie Greymountain is the roadman for the Utah NAC and I spend about 2 days a week in ceremonies with the Dine (and the ceremonies are all done in Dine). You have to think in reverse with most Native Lanaugages, Dine included, even in those where noun:verb pairs are like english. That's why your sentences are somewhat akward. It's ok, we will work on it together and Ronnie will help you to learn. Dine is not as complex as Cherokee and a lot easier to learn, but its still a hard language for English speakers to master. :-) Jmerkey 23:56, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- Note. User has reblocked themselves and agreed to a two week break. Please suspend any action on this request unless the user returns and resumes the previous activities. In two weeks, this user and myself will attempt to work together and get the Dine wikipedia up to a reasonable standard of progress. Jmerkey 23:39, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
Romanian Wikipedia
I request to have sysop AND checkuser permissions removed from me. Currently, that would leave a single user with checkuser permissions, but on one hand he has gained the trust of the community, by being for instance recently promoted bureaucrat and on the other hand I'll inform them about my decision and urge them to hold new elections for another checkuser.

- I think either both should keep CU untill replacement for you has been found, either both should be removed untill new elections have been held. I leave it up to another steward to make the final decision, but I tend to think that the first option is the best. Effeietsanders 12:10, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- As we had to deal with vandals and sockpuppets in the past, for which CU proved to be a valuable tool, it might be wise not to remove from both of us. Like I've said, I've informed the community about my decision and mentioned the need for new elections: http://ro.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Discu%C5%A3ie_Wikipedia%3ASfatul_B%C4%83tr%C3%A2nilor&diff=815697&oldid=814994 Thank you very much Effeietsanders for your help so far! --Vlad 12:17, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- Policy is: if no 2 local checkusers, then no checkuser. So if you lose it, the other also will. However, people can still request stewards to use checkuser to help that wiki (even thought no local checkusers will exist) drini [es:] [commons:] 19:01, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- The proposal was now: leave both as CU, and remove the sysop-bit. After elections, Vlad can be replaced by the newly elected person. Effeietsanders 23:47, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- Precisely, that was my proposal. As you can see, elections for checkuser are in progress: http://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Candida%C5%A3i#Candidaturi_pentru_statutul_de_checkuser --Vlad 10:21, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes
If you are requesting administrator status to make a translation of the wiki interface, see also the BetaWiki project, which seeks to make a neutral MediaWiki translation that will then be default for all wikis. That is more useful than only making a local translation. You can ask questions in the IRC channel or in the mailing list. See also MediaWiki localisation.
Stewards: Currently active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary. When granting a request, please copy the request to the appropriate section there, and clearly state the date of removal.

- Hello. Could you explain why administrator access is required for transliteration? Do you need the import tool, for example? —{admin} Pathoschild 08:24, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- I need to enter a line in monobook.js to link to the transliteration file. Thank you.--Eukesh 16:12, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- Why is it taking so long to cater this request? My tenure as an admin had finished by this duration in Dzonkha and Bod Skad when I last applied for temp. sysop there for the same purpose. Thanks.--Eukesh 00:57, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. Alnokta 15:35, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

The site is virtually empty now and I may not have much time to spend there but I would visit it occassionally and I would clean it, keep an eye on possible vandalism and build some infrastucture, tools and basic content there as a help for future contributors unacquainted with wikis and/or wiktionaries. I am an administrator in es.wikt (wikt:es:Usuario:Piolinfax) and in nah.wikt (wikt:nah:Usuario:Piolinfax). Thanx --Piolinfax (@es.wikt) 14:10, 18 February 2007 (UTC) 13:43, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- You seem to be describing long-term goals, which suggests you mean to require permanent adminship — although you don't need administrator access to do most of what you've described in a non-urgent situation. In order to be granted temporary access, you need to point out a present, urgent need for you to hold the status; and propose a duration for it. If you want permanent adminship on this project, you need to gain consensus locally; we cannot grant permanent status where no community exists or where the community has not approved of the user's status. Redux 13:58, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, I did not signed properly earlier. Well, I do not intend to be a permanent admin there, just to leave some easy paths for future contributors. The problem about gathering consensus is this: currently there is no community in mn.wikt yet. Maybe I will ask for support in mn.wikipedia. Thanks anyway :) --Piolinfax (@es.wikt) 14:10, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
- Temporary adminship is meant to be granted to address urgent situations in projects without local administrators or where the existing admins are all inactive. If you want to start building a basic infrastructure of project-space pages, for instance, you don't need administrator tools for that. A few examples in which temporary adminship can be granted: a) there is spam or vandalism that needs to addressed (deleting inappropriate pages created by vandals, trolls and spammers, for instance); b) you need to edit the MediaWiki interface for the project (only admins can edit MediaWiki pages); c) certain, specific cleanup tasks that require admin tools, such as cleaning up redirect messes left by unexperienced users or even vandals. In all of those cases, adminship is granted only for a limited period of time, and it's usually for a few days only. Redux 13:43, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank you very much. --Jose77 01:01, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- Done But since you only mentioned the pages to be deleted, of which I counted "only" 17, I figure a 72-hour adminship should suffice. Expires on Thursday, February 22 at 13:50 UTC. If there are other tasks that would need an administrator and that would require a longer period, please let us know, so that we can consider an extension. Redux 13:48, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
