The USS Santa Maria was a Federation starship operating in the year 2396 of an alternate timeline.
History and disposition[]
This vessel was commanded by Captain Wesley Crusher. The vessel utilized hyperport technology as a form of transportation for its personnel. That year, the vessel visited Rovan IV where the crew accidentally infected the population with a lethal virus. Crusher sent Pierce back in time to 2366 in order to ensure that an alternate timeline would occur, and the hyperport would never be created and thus save the Rovan people.
Pierce brought with him one of Crusher's Captain's log recordings as evidence of his time travel. (TNG - Maelstrom comic: "Forbidden Fruit")
- The end of the story indicates this timeline would not come to pass due to the time travel situation.

Background[]
- While the single comic reference to this vessel took place in an entirely alternate timeline, it seems to be from a reality that ran roughly parallel to the primary timeline of canon Star Trek, with the exception that Wesley Crusher remained in Starfleet, as he did in the TNG novel: Imzadi alternate future. Assuming the makeup of the 2390s fleet was similar to that of canon, Santa MarÃa might be a heavy cruiser of the same type as the USS ibn Majid mentioned in Star Trek: Picard, or a Sovereign-class vessel seen to be common after the type of the USS Enterprise-E in the TNG movies. Presuming that alternate realities might share common ship types this might also be similar to the Galaxy X-class USS Enterprise-D seen in TNG episode, novelization & comic adaptation: All Good Things or the Enterprise-class described in Millennium. Since none of these 2390s ship classes had been devised at the time of the comic's publication, any potential association with them would be entirely presumptuous.
