The hazard team was a specialized mission unit designed to handle extreme, physically dangerous situations both aboard Federation starships, and on specialized away missions. Originally serving aboard the USS Voyager under the command of Lieutenant Les Foster, the team was disbanded by a Starfleet functionary upon the ship's return to the Alpha Quadrant.

Most of Voyager's hazard team alums went their separate ways, reassigned to several different posts across Federation space. Original second-in-command officer Alexander Munro was assigned to teach small unit tactics at Starfleet Academy, while Ensign Chell was assigned to a research outpost. Ensign Telsia Murphy was assigned to another starship. However, a chance encounter Munro had at the Academy with Captain Jean-Luc Picard demonstrated the impressive tactics originated by the hazard team during a holodeck training simulation. Picard quickly concluded that he wanted the such a team aboard the Enterprise, and requested Munro's reassignment to the Federation flagship which was quickly granted.

Munro re-assembled the hazard team aboard the Enterprise, retaining as many of the core members as possible, while also recruiting several new officers. Following the hazard team's performance during the Idryll-Attrexian Crisis of 2380, Captain Picard is so impressed by the team's effectiveness that he recommends the unit to become a standard feature of deep space deployments throughout the fleet.

  • Lieutenant Alexander Munro served as the second-in-command of the hazard team aboard Voyager, and now leads the new incarnation aboard the Enterprise. He works tirelessly towards improving himself and the team at large now that they serve aboard the Federation's flagship.
  • Ensign Telsia Murphy now serves as second-in-command, and maintains a cool head even in the most bleak of situations. She and Munro have grown very close, and completely rely on one another to accomplish their mission.
  • Ensign Austin Chang returned to his role from Voyager as the hazard team's demolitionist, and is now less introverted and more accepting of social situations. This Chang to develop a new passion, allowing him to take the defense of his team and ship more seriously.
  • Ensign Korban was a student of Munro's at the Academy, and has taken the position of weapons specialist and quartermaster. He can usually be found in the ship's Armory, testing new weapons.
  • Ensign Chell realized that serving at a research outpost on a backwater planet was not the most idyllic of assignments and was happy to be transferred back to the hazard team, despite his nervousness in tense situations. A technology enthusiast, he was also thrilled to serve aboard a Sovereign class starship.
  • Ensign Jorge Gonzales served as a security team member aboard the USS Dallas before being evacuated to the Attrexian Space Station when the starship came under attack by Exomorphs. After helping Lieutenant Munro help save the Attrexians on the station, he returned to the Enterprise where an impressed Munro requested his transfer to the hazard team as a covert operations expert.
  • Ensign Sydney Stockman is a fresh graduate from Starfleet Academy's class of 2380, serving as the team's pilot for certain away missions that cannot be reached via transporter. Young and idealistic, Sydney's eagerness is only matched by her burgeoning skills as a combat pilot.
  • Ensign Elizabeth Laird returned to the team from Voyager at the request of Lieutenant Munro, having been a key player in repelling invaders in the starship graveyard while in the Delta Quadrant.
  • Ensign Jack Franklin was personally assigned to the team by Captain Picard.
