Starfleet Legal Services was an agency of the United Federation of Planets Starfleet that provided legal assistance to Federation colonies with civilian civil and criminal matters that pertained to Federation law.

Specifics[]

The agency provides legal representation for criminal suspects upon request. The head of Legal Services has the authority to divert a starship in order to provide appropriate personnel to the colony, if necessary.

History[]

In 2270, chief administrator Wilson Vanderberg at the Pergium Production Station on Janus VI contacted Starfleet Legal Services and requested legal assistance in the investigation and murder trial of a miner and Horta. Admiral Clem Taplin assigned Lieutenant Laura Delaney to serve as defense attorney and Captain James T. Kirk to serve as "frontier judge" for the case. (FASA RPG module: Witness for the Defense)
