See Hoffman for other articles with titles that contain, either by relationship or by coincidence, this character's surname.

Hoffman was a 23rd century Human who served aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise in the 2260s under the command of Captain James T. Kirk.

Biography[]

In 2268, Hoffman was one of many paramedics mobilized to render aid and assistance to a Frenni caravan apparently attacked by a Klingon ship near the Belennii system. Radiation from a vaporized ship disabled transporters, requiring rapid triage and evacuation of the crippled freighter Selessan. But it was a trap, and the Selessan rammed the Enterprise, causing heavy casualties. Hoffman was one of four paramedics killed in the shuttle bay during the assault.

Doctor Leonard McCoy felt terribly guilty, as he'd personally selected Hoffman for the rescue mission. Kirk spoke at a memorial service in the ship's chapel for personnel killed during the attack, attended by McCoy, Spock, Montgomery Scott, Nyota Uhura, and many others. (TOS novel: Dreams of the Raven)
