- —Chekote, 2370

History and examples[]
- American Civil War - A war fought between the United States of America and the Confederate States of America - which was comprised of former states that had broken away from the Union. The war was fought from 1861 to 1865, and was a key event in the elimination of slavery and repression on Earth.(VOY episode: "The Q and the Grey"; TOS episode: "The Savage Curtain")
- Xindi Civil War- A war fought between the six species of Xindi in the 1930s to the 2030s. It ended when the Reptilians and the Insectoids detonated explosives in Xindus' eight largest fissures which ultimately destroyed the planet and caused the extinction of Avians.(ENT episode: "The Shipment")
- In 2246 civil war broke out between the Vestians. Rebels from Vestos II threatened to have the war spill out of Vestian space so Starfleet dispatched the USS Aldrin to patrol the Vestios sector to make sure hostilities were contained within Vestian space and did not disrupt normal shipping. The war was quelled in that year with the rebels surrendering to the Vestian authorities. (TOS novel: Burning Dreams)
- Mordan IV Civil War - A war fought between from Karnas' faction and Peretor Sain's faction on Mordan IV from 2319 to 2359.(TNG episode: "Too Short a Season")
- Klaestron Civil War - In 2339, the Klaestrons were engaged in civil war among themselves on Klaestron IV. (DS9 episode: "Dax")
- The planet Wyath suffered a civil war following the exile of Kommandant Ghud who had been ruling the planet. (TNG comic: "Light of the Day")
- Klingon Civil War - A brief war fought between two factions in the Klingon Empire in late 2366 and early 2367. Factions loyal to Gowron were able to defeat the Romulan backed Duras sisters after the Federation exposed Romulan involvement in the war. This helped secure Gowron's position as Chancellor, and for a few more years preserved an alliance between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire until Gowron withdrew from the alliance when the Federation condemned a Klingon invasion of Cardassia. (TNG episode: "Redemption" and DS9 episode: "The Way of the Warrior")
Following the end of the Hur'q Conflict[1] in the year 2410, Ambassador Odo became the leader of the Dominion. Odo made concessions to the Khitomer Alliance to allow the Dominion to join, including turning the Dominion away from the Founders benevolent dictatorship towards democracy. Odo was concerned whether he could convince the Great Link on Empersa of the necessity, in order to avoid a Dominion civil war that would be detrimental to everyone. (STO - Gamma Quadrant mission: "Home")
In 2411, the insurrection of Matriarch J'Ula and House Mo'Kai against Klingon Chancellor J'mpok led to the Klingon Civil War of 2411. Aakar, son of Aakam, a leading member of House Mo'Kai, committed a war crime by targeting Qu'Vat City with destruction by a weaponized mycelium emitter. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "The Centre Cannot Hold")
Aakar switched sides and brought the mycelial superweapon to J'mpok, who used it to destroy Khitomer City and blame J'Ula. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "The Khitomer Discord")
The revelation of these events led to the shattering of the Klingon Empire and the dissolution of the Klingon High Council soon after. (STO - Klingon Civil War mission: "Partisans")
