Aeolus was a Being, a member of the omnipotent species which visited Earth 2,500 years ago and were worshipped as the Greek gods. He was God of the Winds.

Background[]

Aeolus appeared to be a giant, bald humanoid. He seemed to be at least 60 feet tall and wore a red, Greek-style embroidered shirt tied at the waist, and wore sandals on his feet. He was capable of generating gale-force winds.

History[]

Some 2,500 years ago, as documented in the Odyssey by Homer, Ulysses and his crew spent ten years returning home after the events of the Trojan War. His vessel sailed to the Land of the Lotus Eaters, where his crew was suddenly overcome by a compunction to relax and do nothing. Ulysses struck out on his own, surviving attacks by cannibals and the cyclops before encountering Aeolus. (TOS comic: "What Fools These Mortals Be..")

Zeus kept all but two of the Beings, which would have included Aeolus, locked away for a hundred years to keep them from seeking revenge for the death of Apollo. (NF novel: Gods Above)

In the year 2267, the USS Enterprise discovered Aeolus and five other Beings. They resided in Mount Olympus, but had opened a dimensional warp to a planetoid and reformed it to resemble Ancient Greece. The Beings challenged James T. Kirk, Leonard McCoy, and Spock to survive the confrontations Ulysses had faced 2,500 years earlier. Following attacks by cannibals and the cyclops, Aeolus appeared and blasted gale-force winds against the landing party. Combined phaser bursts set to wide radius and disrupt were able to negate the effects of the winds. Kirk, Spock and McCoy then hastily boarded a small sailing ship and took off before Aeolus could pursue them. (TOS comic: "What Fools These Mortals Be..")

Aeolus' father, wife and children were named in the Odyssey. [1]
