A barbecue grill

A barbecue, sometimes abbreviated BBQ, was a style of food preparation from Earth, typically consisting of cooking a seasoned steak or shrimp over an open flame, or barbecue grill.

History[]

Barbecues are an old Earth tradition dating back many millennia, and was a process of cooking food utilized by many of Earth's cultures. Barbecue grills (or pits) were a common staple in residential dwellings of the 20th century, and were often the center of outdoor social gatherings. Often, the hosts of these social gatherings would film the party guests as well as the cooking food. In 1996, a man videotaping a barbecue in Los Angeles managed to film a temporally displaced USS Voyager. (VOY: "Future's End"; PIC: "Assimilation"; Star Trek: First Contact)

In the early days of space exploration, home-style barbecue meals were served to crews aboard Earth starships. (ENT: "Singularity")

Continuing into the 24th century, those from the American state of Texas, were well known for putting on lavish Texas barbecues, while barbecued shrimp continued to be served at Sisko's Creole Kitchen, in the heart of the American city of New Orleans. (VOY: "Unity"; DS9: "Image in the Sand")

Colloquialisms[]

Often, Humans would refer to the process of being burned alive as a "Human barbecue". Also, the act of multiple people loitering in a spot for a long period of time, could be referenced as "throwing a barbecue". (VOY: "Demon"; ENT: "The Catwalk")
