"This fight is necessary."
―Gordon to Phil Coulson[src]

Gordon was an Inhuman and the right-hand man of Jiaying. While he was attempting to assist with Kora's Terrigenesis, his home of Afterlife became attacked by Nathaniel Malick. While Gordon attempted to assist S.H.I.E.L.D. with retaking Afterlife, he was captured by Malick, who then attempted to transfer Gordon's powers to John Garrett, before Gordon sacrificed himself to ensure that Phil Coulson could complete the mission.

Biography[]

Afterlife Attacked[]

Struggles with Kora[]

"There's too many of them."
"Where did they come from?"
"I don't know. But they're taking people prisoner."
―Gordon and Jiaying[src]

Like many other Inhumans, Gordon lived in the hidden settlement of Afterlife. On a day when Jiaying's daughter Kora attempted to flee from Afterlife, Gordon was instructed by Li to go and follow her to bring her back to Afterlife. On the way, Gordon noticed the presence of Melinda May and Yo-Yo Rodriguez, who claimed that they wanted to meet with Jiaying. Gordon was thus instructed by Li to bring them into Afterlife where they were locked up in a room.

Later, Gordon was attacked by Nathaniel Malick's men as they stormed the settlement, but was saved by Rodriguez, who fired at his attacker with a Chronicom Rifle. Gordon then went with Jiaying, Li, Rodriguez and May, and they were soon confronted by Malick, who had won Kora to his side. As Kora attacked and scarred Li, Gordon was able to teleport out of the building, taking the three women with him. They were transported to the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents' Quinjet and were instructed to find a place to hide and wait for S.H.I.E.L.D. to reach out to them. Gordon thus teleported with Jiaying to a hideout.[2]

Sacrifice[]

"You can't get us out. But maybe I can."
"Save your energy. You're too weak."
"The other Inhumans... I can't let this happen to them."
―Gordon and Phil Coulson[src]

Gordon and Jiaying were able to avoid being captured by Nathaniel Malick as he hunted them down. Upon finally receiving a message from S.H.I.E.L.D., Gordon teleported with Jiaying and arrived in the Lighthouse, where they discussed the opportunity of a rescue mission in Afterlife. Gordon offered to take part in the mission to take Phil Coulson inside the settlement, and advised Jiaying to remain in the Lighthouse, which she reluctantly agreed.

Gordon thus boarded a Quinjet with Coulson, Alphonso Mackenzie and Yo-Yo Rodriguez. As he was denied the use of an I.C.E.R., his allies noticed that he seemed pretty calm given the situation, to which he replied that the fight was important enough for him to keep his focus. Once near Afterlife, Gordon was instructed to teleport with Coulson to a part of the building that was rarely used. However, soon after they arrived, Gordon and Coulson were ambushed by Malick and his crew, who had predicted where they would arrive and shot Gordon in the back with a Chronicom Rifle, wounding him.

Coulson stays with Gordon as he dies

Gordon dies of exhaustion

Now a captive himself, Gordon was forced to take part in a painful experiment designed by Grady during which his teleportation powers were transferred into John Garrett. Left exhausted by this brutal operation, Gordon was imprisoned with Coulson in a room meant to detain powerful Inhumans. As Coulson claimed that he would get them out, Gordon insisted that he was not able to, but suggested that he could try to teleport outside, despite being heavily weakened. Although Coulson refused to let Gordon risk his life, Gordon teleported all the same with him, and was successful in the effort. Nevertheless, the exhaustion added to his wound was too much to bear, and Gordon passed away seconds afterwards.[1]

Personality[]

Gordon was a young man with a strong will and sense of responsibility. He loyally followed Jiaying, who had provided him with a place to stay by letting him live in Afterlife, and valiantly protected her as she was being hunted down by Nathaniel Malick. Gordon was also very brave, volunteering to take part in a mission to confront Malick's men and save his fellow Inhumans, and both Phil Coulson and Alphonso Mackenzie, two seasoned S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, noticed that he did not seem afraid by what they were going to face. His courage even extended to self-sacrifice, as he was willing to give his life to have Coulson released so that he could save the other Inhumans. Despite living his final moments, Gordon was even able to find the strength to leave life with a smile, telling Coulson that he found him "hilarious", something he had already told him earlier.

Powers[]

"You can't outrun Gordon."
―Li to Kora[src]
  • Inhuman Physiology: Gordon was an Inhuman who achieved his genetic potential once he underwent Terrigenesis and gained superhuman powers. Aside from superpowers, Gordon's Terrigenesis process also changed him physically, removing the eyes from his face and replacing them with smoothed out skin. Gordon's superpowers all harness a unique form of blue energy which flares whenever one of his abilities is in use.
    • Enhanced Strength: Along with teleportation, Gordon also gained increase strength from Terrigenesis.
    • Blindsight: Although he lacked eyes, Gordon could see, albeit not in the way that regular people do, and was thus perfectly aware of his surroundings. As such, he was able to sense Melinda May's and Yo-Yo Rodriguez's presence near Afterlife and alert Li even though they had not made the slightest noise to signal that they were near him.
    • Teleportation: Gordon's most notable power was his ability to teleport over a wide range of distances. Despite his young age, Gordon had an impressive mastery over his powers, being able to teleport three adults in addition to himself with minimal effort. However, the teleportation still came with physical requirements, and when he teleported both Phil Coulson and himself outside a room after being wounded by a Chronicom Rifle and having undergone an incredibly painful experiment during which his teleportation ability was transferred into John Garrett, Gordon's body could not endure the physical strain, causing his death by exhaustion.
      • Force-Field Generation: Whenever he teleported, Gordon caused the appearance of a force-field of blue energy. As such, when he teleported, Gordon advised those who were not involved in the teleportation to take a few steps back in order not to be affected by the process.
