History

Similar to his Earth-616 counterpart up to that point in time, Norman Osborn was a successful, ruthless and busy businessman, father to university student Harry Osborn. Norman Osborn was also secretly supervillain el Duende Verde, obsessed with destroying hero el Hombre Araña, whom el Duende knew was secretly Peter Parker, Harry's classmate and friend. Norman suffered retrogade amnesia and did not remember having been el Duende (or Parker being el Hombre Araña), but he was prone to suffer relapses.[1]

At one point, Harry tried to convince his father to take him in a trip to Europe, but Norman instead reprimanded Harry for being emotional and nice (traits that Norman believed made Harry unfit to take over his company one day), and particularly regretted that Harry was friends with Parker, whom Norman considered weak. As soon as Norman was alone, howevr, thinking of Parker's name, he had a breakdown and remembered Parker's identity as el Hombre Araña. As el Duende, Norman felt that Parker/el Hombre Araña was a threat for himself and his son, and decided to kill him. Riding his glider, el Duende raided Parker's home at night, blowing the door with his glove weapon. The ruckus wope up Parker's old Aunt May who, at seeing creepy el Duende hovering inside her home, fainted unconscious. Parker woke up thanks to his spider sense, to find Aunt May held by el Duende. El Duende used May as a hostage, ordering Parker to reveal his identity publicly in 24 hours, lest el Duende would kill May. El Duende left flying with May - but, not wanting to take care of May for a day, he used a gas to keep May unconscious for 48 hours, then dropped her at the Hospital Internacional, counting that she would not be recognized (as she was in her nightgown and robe, without any purse). However, the hospital staff found a card with a phone number in her pocket, and they phoned to try and identify her. It was her home's number, Peter Parker answered and he understood that she was not in el Duende's clutches. In costume, el Hombre Araña ran for the hospital, but en route he found el Duende and they fought. During the combat, el Duende used his gas grenades and caused el Hombre Araña to hallucinate, half-conscious, about his dream wedding with Parker's girlfriend Gwen Stacy. Amused at el Hombre Araña's ravings, el Duende listened - but, when el Hombre Araña mentioned Harry's name, el Duende had a new breakdown and returned to Norman's personality, remembering nothing of the last events. Confused at his costume, Norman took off his mask and fainted, while el Hombre araña recovered. Deciding that Norman was not really guilty of el Duende's actions, el Hombre Araña did not turn him to the police, instead simply removing his costume and deciding to be careful about a villain who knew his identity.[1] Norman apparently returned to his previous activities.

Attributes

Weaknesses

El Duende Verde was mentally ill. Norman Osborn did not remember the time he spent being el Duende Verde or anything el Duende knew (such as el Hombre Araña's secret identity), and el Duende Verde disregarded Norman's knowledge and interests. They changed personality when certain memories triggered the change.[1]

Paraphernalia

Equipment

  • Electrical Discharges: El Duende verde's gloves were interwoven with microcircuit-conducting filaments capable of high-frequency electrical discharges from rechargeable power packs in both his glove cuffs and costume tunics.[1]
  • Gas: El Duende Verde had access to a gas that caused a victim to fall into sleep for 48 hours, non-stop, even with medical treatment.[1]
  • Pumpkin Bombs: El Duende Verde used bombs with gas that caused their victims to hallucinate.[1]

Transportation

Goblin Glider, similar to his Earth-616 counterpart.[1]

Notes

  • One of the main differences between Earth-TRN911 and other continuities is that, apparently, Norman Osborn never died on Earth-TRN911.
  • The continuity is unclear for this character. In his penultimate appearance in Amazing Spider-Man (MX) #117, which reprinted a translated version of Amazing Spider-Man #98, el Duende Verde was defeated, Norman Osborn forgetting that he was el Duende, and el Hombre Araña destroyed el Duende's costume and technology. Here, Norman Osborn recovers his memory, and apparently has access to the costume and technology again. Surely el Duende may have had back-up copies of his costume and technology; still, the plot does not reference this issue.
