History
Emmanuel Rodrigo Raposa was a General in the Army of small Latin American country Bosqueverde.[5]
Shortly after dictator Hector Carranza was deposed, democratically elected president Ricardo Dominguez[5][8] adopted a benevolent dictator approach[9] that did not satisfy the poorest social classes of Bosqueverde. Raposa gathered these Bosqueverdans and led them in the socialist uprising of her own revolutionary movement, called Raposistas.[5] Raposa promised that he would establish a new representative government[3][4] with democratic reforms.[9] At that time, his usual tactics included preemptive strikes, drug trafficking and terrorism, as well as getting the best men available:[7] He hired well-paid international mercenaries, including Broward "Bo" Ollsen[8] and Marc Spector[6] to help him take the capital, Ciudad Leando.[5] Spector believed that Raposa was actually going to be a better ruler than Dominguez,[6][3][4] but in those days Spector was easily convinced to fight for the highest payer.[3][4]When Raposa's rebellion was almost assured of victory, Dominguez made a deal with Raposa: Dominguez promised not to challenge Raposa as the rightful ruler of Bosqueverde if Raposa allowed Dominguez to leave the country with his wife Carmilla Dominguez and gave him a million U.S. dollars in gold krugerands. Raposa accepted and sent the money to the Presidential Palace; but he decided that he could recover the gold if Dominguez died. Raposa told only Ollsen about his agreement with Dominguez, then gave orders in person to Ollsen to assassinate Dominguez and recover the gold during the assault.[1] The rest of the mercenaries were not informed, to avoid leaks,[9] and instead they just received orders to capture Dominguez alive.[8][5] During Raposa's siege of Ciudad Leando[8] in the summer,[8][9] the unit led by Ollsen suffered casualties while reaching the Palace;[1][9] only Ollsen and Spector survived[1] and reached the President's office,[8] finding Dominguez and his wife.[9][1] Dominguez mistakenly believed Ollsen and Spector had been sent by Raposa to escort them[9][1] to a plane to fly to Europe.[1] Dominguez reached into a drawer in his desk[8][9] to get the key to the safebox where he had kept the gold. Ollsen saw the opportunity to justify the murder of Dominguez while benefiting himself,[1] and yelled at Spector that Dominguez was trying to get a gun,[8][9][1] so Spector fired,[8][9][1] killing the president in what he believed was self-defense.[6] Ollsen then had Spector leave the room to go outside to get a smoke[9] and report to Raposa that Dominguez was dead, while Ollsen busied himself "cleaning up " the mess.[8] Ollsen had recognized the woman as Dominguez's wife, and threatened to deliver her to Raposa as a political prisoner, unless she shared the gold with Ollsen, without Raposa knowing about it. Señora Dominguez agreed to conspire with Ollsen to survive as a rich woman and escape the country, and Ollsen smuggled the gold from the Palace's wine cellar under Raposa's nose, not without difficulty.[1] At that point, Dominguez's first democratic term had been only in its sixth month.[8]
Following Dominguez's death,[6] Raposa easily took power.[6][8][5] Raposa paid Spector well for his loyalty, reputation, and results;[9] Spector's actions had been key to Raposa's victory.[6]
Breaking his promises, however, Raposa established a ferocious dictatorship in Bosqueverde,[3][4] repeatedly violating human rights[6] and spilling so much blood[9] that his regime was considered the bloodiest in Latin America. Raposa had no problem shooting innocent civilians if he got something of it.[7] He appointed torturer César Bajete as the general of his Secret Police, and put him in command of his death squads,[5][8] which gained infamy.[5] Bajete was Raposa's right-hand man,[9][5] yet Bajete was still a madman[9] and Raposa simply used him until he was no longer useful to him, as he did with the mercenaries.[2]
Dominguez's supporters refused to recognize Raposa's legitimacy, and arranged guerrilla attacks against the new President's interests. This led to ten years of civil war[5][8] that devastated the population with poverty, disease and mutilation[5][8] while battles took place village by village.[5] Critical of the organization of the resistance was Hector Silva, professor at Ciudad Leando University[5] and former friend of Dominguez.[5][9] After a decade, the resistance defeated Raposa's forces,[5] but Raposa managed to escape the country before being captured. Some of his allies, including Bajete, were arrested.[5] However, many Raposa supporters remained at large, awaiting their leader's return.[8] The new democratic government immediately devoted efforts to prosecute and punish the Raposistas for war crimes and human rights violations,[8][5] but they were unable to find and arrest Raposa[8][7] or Ollsen.[9]
Raposa settled in Miami to organize an operation to take shipments of refined cocaine from Paraguay to Florida, partnering with Colonel Ramar as his supplier.[1] Using a mansion overlooking the sea as his base of operations,[1] surplus military weaponry, and an army of well-trained and well-paid[7] thugs[1], Raposa organized transports of drug and weapons using the intercoastals and canals that connected lakes and glades with the ocean in Miami, and collected a fortune in an account in Bahamas.[7] Two of his hitmen, Andy and Raphael, served as his bodyguards and, when Raposa ordered it, executed subordinates who screwed up[7] or tried to rob him: One of his pilots, Ernest, tried to keep part of a shipment with an unscheduled landing in Bonita Springs, and Raposa had him horribly killed at the sea to serve as a lesson to others: He did not need to make his murders seem like accidents.[1] He was, however, concerned about his rivalry with other drug traffickers in the area, especially Rory Valdez, based in Boca Raton.[7]
The Bosqueverde government arrested Marc Spector,[6][5] who was locked up and tried with other Raposistas, including Bajete. Correctly foreseeing that they were going to be given the death penalty, Bajete and his associates planned an escape,[8][5] taking advantage of the support of Raposa's supporters who were free and awaiting the return of their General.[8] After being condemned,[5][9] Bajete and his associates escaped[5][2] along with a reluctant Spector.[9][2] Bajete intended to assassinate President Silva[8][5] out of revenge[8] and to bring about a political change.[5][2] Spector turned against them[2] and, in his identity as the superhero Moon Knight, stopped Bajete at the Presidential Palace.[5][2] He then convinced Silva to pardon Spector, in exchange for his promise to deliver Raposa to the justice of Bosqueverde.[5][2][7][3][4] The rest of the Raposistas,[5] including Bajete, were executed,[5][2] but Silva kept his promise and released Spector.[5][2][1][7]
Determined to keep his word,[2] Spector tracked down Ollsen, hoping that Ollsen could lead him to Raposa. [10][1] Moon Knight found Ollsen searching for the person responsible for a conspiracy that had harmed him, and made a deal with Ollsen: Moon Knight revealed to Ollsen where the man he was looking for was, in exchange for Ollsen telling him where Raposa was and what had happened on the day of Dominguez's death. Ollsen sent Moon Knight to Miami,[10] but after killing his personal enemy, Ollsen decided to pay off his debt for framing Spector by helping him against Raposa; furthermore, Ollsen recognized his part of the blame for giving a monster like Raposa the government of a country.[7]
Moon Knight investigated Raposa in the underworld, visibly attacking lower-level drug dealers to identify their superiors, and so that they would notify Raposa in an attempt to intimidate him.[1] In an attack on a ship in the canals of Miami, Moon Knight intimidated one of Raposa's sailors into telling him about Raposa's enemies before having him destroy his cargo; the sailor later told Raposa about this, but Raposa still killed him by choking him with money while his hitmen Bruno and Lawrence held him down, as punishment for losing a million dollars worth of cocaine. Raposa was not afraid of Moon Knight anyway, considering Valdez a more important threat, and decided to attack Valdez's base, that same night, brutally and without provocation. Raposa attacked Valdez's villa with combat helicopters and mercenaries armed with semi-automatics; and he saw Moon Knight (who had entered shortly before, to try to get Valdez to help him against Raposa) come out of there. Recognizing that Moon Knight was the other enemy against whom he had been warned, and seeing that his men had controlled the attack on the farm, Raposa insisted that they pursue him with some helicopters. Moon Knight reached his own gunship and shot down one of Raposa's choppers, after which he fled faster than Raposa's vehicles could keep up with him. Recognizing that he had escaped, Raposa decided to retreat to a well-protected penthouse that he had in the area, ignoring that Ollsen was there, giving a good account of the defenders.[7]
But Moon Knight followed Raposa to his base with the chopper, starting an aerial firefight in the middle of the city. Raposa fired without worrying about collateral damage, but Moon Knight managed to break the chopper's tail. After a crashland on his penthouse, Raposa stood up and tried to call his men, but Ollsen had already eliminated them. Raposa left the helicopter crew on the roof while he went down to collect money from a safe to try to reach his accounts in the Bahamas, but in that room Ollsen was waiting for him, seriously injured but still triumphant and pointing a gun at Raposa. Moon Knight arrived shortly after and disarmed Ollsen, because he needed Raposa alive. Raposa took a gun he had kept in the same safe and, parallel to what had happened a decade earlier, Ollsen shouted at Spector that a third man was armed and that Spector must kill him. This time, however, Moon Knight knocked out Raposa without killing him. Moon Knight then called the Bosqueverde consulate to ask for a boat to wait for him outside of Miami,[7] to deliver Raposa to them, bound. With this he not only brought Raposa to justice,[7][5][3][4] but also exorcised a demon from his own past.[3][4]Paraphernalia

Notes
- Possibly the Bosqueverde government tried and executed Raposa. Raposa would have had the opportunity to tarnish the memory of President Dominguez and his wife, then Vice President, by revealing the million dollar deal in gold. If he did, he did not manage to prevent Carmilla Dominguez from remaining vice president, as stated in Marvel Atlas #2.
