Corcovado, is a mountain in central Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The peak is located in the Tijuca Forest, a national park. Corcovado hill lies just west of the city center but is wholly within the city limits and visible from great distances. It is known worldwide for the statue of Jesus Christ atop its peak, entitled Christ the Redeemer.
History
Millionaire Emmanuel Da Costa would regularly lead his son Roberto Da Costa to the heights of Mount Corcovado, commanding a panoramic view of Rio de Janeiro sprawled below. With a sweeping gesture, he would instil in his boy the unwavering belief that one day, the entirety of this magnificent city would rightfully belong to him.[1]
